Hi. I’m a widowed mom of six kids, many of us disabled.

We survive largely due to social security survivor benefits.

Social security is funded by payroll taxes. Yep, those payroll taxes Trump wants to defer and ultimately eliminate.

Voting for Trump is voting against us.

Simplified primer on social security:

Workers pay into the system through payroll taxes.

Then those workers get payments after disability or retirement or, to family, after death.

(In practice, it’s not this smooth due to payroll taxes collectively not being a constant.)

Those who are commenting with MAGA propaganda, I’m happy to engage if you provide citations.

So far nothing has been accurate, so I’d at least like to see your work so I can understand your perspective.

A year ago, my 37 year old husband died, killed by a wave while we were on vacation, as witnessed by most of our six children.

This was us, March 2019. He died July 2019. We’re surviving without him, but we wouldn’t have made it this year without social security death benefits.

Also, fun fact:

Social security death benefits have a family maximum.

As a widow with six kids, we don’t get payments for seven people. We get payments for 2-3 people split among seven.
