People dunk on the old English dub of Cardcaptors but, I gotta say, it was pretty cool of Pioneer and Nelvana to realize there was a market for the original Japanese version of the show and to release it on video for fans to purchase.
That sort of thing just never happened in the late 90s or early 2000s when it came to those butchered dubs. If a show had a heavily edited dub that was basically what you were stuck with in the west. But with Cardcaptor Sakura they realized there was a market for it.
The videos were distributed by Pioneer, so I’m sure they pushed for it, but the back covers still advertise for the official “Cardcaptors” site and Nelvana’s logo is on the box so I’m sure they had to give the okay. I just feel we’re lucky we got these back in the day.
Meanwhile other older dubs like this such as Pokémon, Sonic X, Kirby: Right Back At Ya!, etc. there's still no legal way to watch the show in the original Japanese format. I actually find it pretty baffling they haven't offered an official way to watch Pokémon in Japanese by now.

I am irrationally bothered by the weirdass rule the ESRB has seemingly put in place that doesn't allow the title logos from M-rated games to be displayed in Smash Directs. What does this even accomplish?
Get ready for the potential future:
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x DANTE
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x DOOMGUY
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x 2B
All in fonts that aren't quite the actual typeface for the games they are from and off enough just to bother you.
Like, this doesn't prevent little Jimmy and Jenny from finding out who these characters are. A quick search of "Vault Boy" still brings up Fallout. And any searching into who Bayonetta or Snake are will have them find their respective game franchises. It's just weird as hell.
Since it's Spooktober I feel sharing a spooky piece of music from video games for the next 31 days. I'll do two today since I missed yesterday. They won't all necessarily be from horror games, they could just give off a creepy vibe.
01
Cabin Theme from Friday the 13th
Probably the first "survival horror" game I ever played? This game actually instilled a childhood fear of Jason in me more than the movies because I was more familiar with the game. The cabin theme puts you on edge.
02
Don't Cry Jennifer from Clock Tower
A classic chase theme from a game a lot of you probably haven't played. Not quite as intense without the snip-snip of Scissorman's giant scissors, but still gets your heart racing.
Lots of people thinking it will be Crash Bandicoot. But I'm done predicting who it's going to be because you can never really tell. Crash has a game coming out soon, sure, but none of the other DLC fighters lined up with an upcoming game.
Obviously my hope is for Geno but I'm done holding my breath for him. But if he happens I'll be ecstatic.
Don't want to get my hopes up over this but, honestly, Travis deserves a spot in Smash. He's an icon of the Wii era, offering motion controls that actually benefited the game, and has (for the most part) remained a Nintendo exclusive character. Travis as earned a spot in Smash.
Even his non-Nintendo ventures hardly count as Suda and Grasshopper were not involved with them. The NMH1 PS3/360 port in particular is considered pretty piss poor.
The only thing that would suck about adding Travis to Smash Bros is they couldn't include this as one of his music tracks because of its lyrics with words like "goddamn", "pussy", and innuendoes.
The Scott the Woz video on used games was so spot on
I’ve got some used games with history to them as far as stickers go and reprinted cover art
Sly Cooper especially went through the ringer. It looks like it started life at a Blockbuster and then wound up somewhere else (maybe a Hollywood Video) before ending up at a Gamestop and ultimately being purchased by me.
