Superheroes and supervillains are attractive because it's clear who the bad guys are.

The guy holding a nuke button and demanding money is the bad guy.

In real life things are rarely that black and white.
There's an old saying: One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

It's an old saying because it's true. The bad guy is whoever it is that's trying to hurt you, but objective 'evil' is much harder to identify.

Trump and his followers represent clear evil, I think.
At the very least they are a very clear threat to democracy and tolerance.

And I think that very clear threat that the majority of us see is why so many more people are involved.

There's a clear bad guy.

And I think a lot of people on the left are upset...
...because they don't see a clear good guy.

A lot of people thought Mueller would be it.

The reality is that there are no superheroes. The reality is that there may not even be any totally objectively 'good' people or at least none that have any power.
And I say that because the individuals that have any real power or influence on their own aren't really doing anything about the bad guy.

For example:
Bill Gates is a 'better' guy. He tries. He objectively wields a lot of power through his vast wealth.
He uses his money to help people, but even he acknowledges that for as much money as he has given away it hasn't had any impact on his life.

He still lives a life of extreme luxury.

He could have said that he was going to spend $10bn on this election to defeat Republicans.
But he didnt and he won't because ultimately he knows his wealth insulates him from the rest of the world.

He is not really of the world the rest of us live in.
Superheroes operate in much the same way, but the difference is they recognize the burden of responsibility placed on them and choose to act.

We have no heroes. Because the people with the power to act are simply choosing not to because it would be inconvenient for them.
