It should fill you with visceral rage that the man masquerading as President not only congratulates himself for the utterly catastrophic state of our nation, but did everything possible to decimate and sabotage what Obama implemented to protect us.
This included:
—An entire division of the NSC dedicated specifically to detecting and coordinating the federal response to pandemics
—A program called PREDICT engineered to detect novel coronavirus strains in China before they spread
—A well funded WHO, HHS, and CDC
Trump isn’t just responsible for the 162,000 Americans who’ve died from COVID because of his incompetent response. He made sure we COULDN’T respond properly by gutting every program and agency we relied on to do so. Then made things worse at every turn. foreignpolicy.com/2020/01/31/cor…
Obama set up a permanent epidemic monitoring and command group inside the WH National Security Council (NSC) and another in the Dept of Homeland Security (DHS)—both of which followed the scientific & public health leads of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the diplomatic advice of the State Department.
Trump had his National Security Advisor John Bolton dismantle all of this in 2018, and fire all of its employees.
So Trump:
—Dismantled our Pandemic Response Office
—Fired all employees
—Eliminated the PREDICT program
—Ignored the pandemic for the first 10 WEEKS
—Continued selling millions of tons of PPE to China until MARCH
—Put completely unqualified people like Kushner & Pence in charge
And what has he done since?
—Spread deadly misinformation about the virus daily
—Politicize basic safety precautions like masks
—Push for states to reopen before their case rates fell to even remotely safe levels
—Make governors bid against one another for critical supplies
He has:
—Withdrawn us from the World Health Organization
—Defunded the CDC, HHS, and NIH
—Gaslit the country about how the virus is “under control,” “going away on its own,” and “will magically disappear” (ALL LETHALLY FALSE)
—Pushed to reopen schools while cases/deaths EXPLODE
It’s not just that he ignored the Obama team’s playbook. He did the exact OPPOSITE of EVERYTHING they suggested.
If there were a playbook on “Trump’s pandemic response,” it would read like a sociopaths guide to ensuring mass murder/genocide. Because that’s what he’s done.
Timeline shows Trump:
—Refused to do anything for the first 5 weeks because he didn’t want to “spook the stock market” (and hurt his reelection)
—Refused to do anything for the next 5 weeks because he didn’t want to “disrupt his trade deal with China” (and hurt his reelection)
This timeline not only proves that Trump is responsible for TENS OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN DEATHS, it reveals that he got his BS talking point about “A lot of people think it goes away in April with the heat” FROM THE PRESIDENT OF CHINA #TrumpMadeInChina slate.com/news-and-polit…

I’ll explain this again just to get ahead of the MAGA outrage at my “lack of civility/tolerance for people with different political beliefs.” If you voted for Trump, you and I do not have “different political beliefs.” We are at opposite ends of the cosmos in terms of character.
If you voted for Trump, you voted for the nullification of my marriage by your corrupt court of illegitimate religious extremists who we all know isn’t done taking a sledgehammer to our fundamental freedoms and most cherished victories for equality and civil rights.
If you voted for Trump, you voted for mass deportations, which will destroy the nation; crater the economy; tear apart MILLIONS of families. I cannot be friends with someone who supports something so needless, racist, inhumane, unconstitutional, and un-American.
Here’s a Substack piece I wrote last September about how much the Republican Party DESPISES our nation’s military. And no one in the party has more contempt for the members of our armed forces than Donald Trump himself
They don’t refuse to admit it because they believe it’s true. They do it because fascists always try to create a world where there is no truth
So that people say “Well, Democrats and pundits say the election wasn’t stolen. But Republicans say that it was. I guess we can never truly know for sure one way or the other.”
Except THAT’S BULLSHIT. The 2020 election was NOT STOLEN. Trump LOST. And TRUTH MATTERS in a DEMOCRACY
One of the things that Jack Smith revealed in his most recent 165-page filing exposing the lengths that Trump went to to cling to power after losing in 2020 was that Trump said to family members:
“It doesn’t matter if you win or lose an election. What matters is that you fight.”
Since @BillOReilly took it upon himself to claim that @KamalaHarris “may be the most unprepared presidential candidate in history,” let’s take a look at her qualifications. [Spoiler alert: She is among the *most* prepared/qualified candidates in modern U.S. history] (THREAD)
Before her selection as Biden’s vice presidential candidate, Harris was the San Francisco District Attorney, the CA Attorney General, and a U.S. senator. All of these were elected positions to which she made history as the being the first female/mixed race person to hold them.
In the Senate, Harris was a member of the Judiciary, Intelligence and Homeland Security committees, all of which are highly prominent assignments. She served with honor and poise on each of these committees, where she was an articulate and powerful voice for equality and justice.
Vance and Trump have both repeatedly lied about Trump “salvaging/saving the Affordable Care Act.” Vance told this lie at least half a dozen times tonight. So let’s correct the record on Trump and Obamacare (the ACA) right now so there is no more confusion (Thread).
As president, Trump fought relentlessly to repeal the ACA using executive action, legislation and lawsuits. “Trump was not successful in undoing the ACA, but it was not for lack of trying,” said Larry Levitt, executive VP for health policy at KFF, a nonpartisan research group.
“Trump encouraged congressional efforts to repeal and replace the ACA, and then took administrative steps to try to weaken it when the legislative route failed,” he continued.
