Analyzing the Crypto Exchange Pump Phenomenon

In this market, it seems that exchange listings have become a catalyst again. It's impossible to know what asset a crypto exchange will list next.

However, there are some signals amidst the noise.
1/ Insight # 1

Find the cryptoassets that exchanges are invested in, either via a SAFT or equity rounds. It's only natural that these will get listed eventually on an exchange.

5/ Insight # 2
Some crypto exchanges signal listings with exchange integrations and trends.

Integrations – Coinbase recently launched Rosetta – an API/middleware to integrate blockchains into a platform. Some projects (i.e. HNS, Kadena) have already worked to implement the API
6/ Trends – Binance has been pretty keen on listing DeFi assets, having listed BAL and YFI over the past week. Binance also continues to enable margin trading for MKR, BAND, and other assets.

Look for assets that exchanges or their custodians are already servicing.

If an exchange already custodies an asset, then it’s likely that there’s an incentive to provide some sort of market for it.
10/ Grayscale Horizen Trust (ZEN) is scarcely listed but partners with many exchanges

Energy from renewables is inconsistent and peaks at inconvenient times. Solar peaks during the midday and wind in the middle of the night.

But, peak demand occurs in the morning and in the late afternoon which is opposite from renewable energy generation.
Renewables now provide an excessive amount of renewable energy from solar and wind during the middle of the day which screws up the economics of electricity generation because the net energy production (grid load) continues to increase without any outlet.

1/ In crypto, founders can generate immense wealth outside of the equity value of their company (i.e. Coinbase, ConsenSys, etc) while they are building and the speed at which they are “exiting” those companies through community governance (i.e. Comp, Synthetix, Balancer).
2/ Much of the value created by the Internet was captured by startups like Facebook and Google. Equity owners of these companies profited massively, and rightfully so. However, there were thousands of entrepreneurs that also saw the value of the web, built companies, and failed.

DeFi is having a year, but NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are also growing in popularity. NFTs have especially grown in the digital art niche.

SuperRare – a leading digital art marketplace – started 2020 with $344,000 in platform sales volume which has quadrupled to over $1.6m.
NFTs present a useful mechanism for preserving the scarcity and verifiability of rare artworks. However, there is an even stronger value proposition provided SuperRare’s tokenized artwork – royalty fees.
For primary sales, there is a 15% commission and creators receive 85%. More importantly, SuperRare is appealing to artists because creators receive a 3% commission for all secondary sales.

SuperRare's royalty fee feature allows artists to capitalize on their growth over time.
