The State Dep't "socialists" at Jacobin Mag supported the violent rightwing US coup attempt in Nicaragua in 2018, portraying it as an uprising against an "authoritarian regime"

They also insanely smeared the Sandinista gov't as "neoliberal," like they did with Bolivia and Brazil
Jacobin Magazine helped provide fake "left" cover for the US-backed fascist coups in Bolivia and Brazil

Jacobin also co-sponsored a "Socialism" Conference featuring US govt-funded regime-changers and open calls for overthrowing Nicaragua's socialist gov't

This "golden age" was only permitted because the US ruling class was genuinely afraid of a socialist revolution.

The USSR was growing, and socialist anticolonial movements were winning everywhere. So US capital was forced to make big concessions to labor to stave off revolution
The 1950s, '60s, and '70s were the peak for national-liberation movements. With inspiration and support from the Soviet Union and communist China, they successfully overthrow colonial regimes across the planet.

The US and Western European ruling classes were seriously scared
The idea that the US (the global protector of capitalism) would win the cold war was not inevitable. So the US, frightened, invested huge sums of money in counterinsurgency. The CIA funded many "progressive" left-liberal groups, as long as they were anti-communist/pro-imperialist

China's investment in public infrastructure is mind-blowingly huge:

The USA can't even rebuild the awful infrastructure collapsing around people, yet alone build new infrastructure.

Because the US economy is controlled by parasitic finance capital. Capitalists make billions moving money around, not with actual production
