Here it is: the first mass spectrum that I ever collected, which captivated my young mind and never let go. In the almost decade and a half since, I have dallied with other techniques, but I always return to my first love. #BlackInChem #BlackInAnalytical

this is from my undergraduate research in David Lynn's lab at @EmoryUniversity where I tested methods to achieve the linear polymerization of simple rings under mild conditions. #BlackInChem #BlackInAnalytical

this project was funded by the now-defunct @HHMINEWS XROP Fellowship, which enabled me to stay in science at a very critical time in my life. i will always be grateful for that support #BlackInChem #BlackInAnalytical

after graduating, i worked in industry as an analytical chemist, mostly doing small molecule mass spectrometry

i then discovered proteomics and did a lot of biochemistry for vaccine development at @Merck Research Labs in West Point, PA #BlackInChem #BlackInAnalytical

in 2011, i got the opportunity of a lifetime to work at the @broadinstitute and develop automated methods to improve the throughput of interactomic and phosphoproteomic experiments. this project was supported by an @Agilent grant to Steve Carr, and i was supervised by @JaffeLab

i was scared that i would have to leave mass spec behind during my phd. thankfully, just the opposite happened. i got to expand into metabolomics, even using my experience in stable isotope labeling from the @broadinstitute to design my thesis project in malaria #BlackInChem

and it does not end there! i am now expanding further into glycomics and glycoproteomics in my postdoc at @universityofga @CTEGD, while delving deeper into plasmodium biology #BlackInChem #BlackInAnalytical

in short, as i say in my profile, "i love mass specs, and i cannot lie!" the happy fact of my career is that mass spectrometry has loved me back and taken me to places i could not imagine #BlackInChem #BlackInAnalytical /END
