Guess what. Karfunkel, it turns out, is the *president* and *CFO* of this low-profile synagogue. So he got a mega-tax deduction by transferring his Kodak shares--when the value was pumped up--to a new charity that he runs. See the UPDATE based on WSJ reporting.
From the Congregation Chemdas Yisroel charity registration filing. This billionaire "donated" stock worth up to $180m to the low-profile synagogue he runs, which doesn't seem to do all that much. He and the two other officers refused to answer my questions about it. I wonder why. Image
By the way, as I reported, Karfunkel has at least two long-standing foundations that support synagogues. They file IRS 990 tax returns. Why didn't he donate this stock to one of those? Congregation Chemdas Yisroel, per all religious charities, does not have to file a 990.
By the way, the size of this “gift” worth up to $180m from Karfunkel to a small low-profile synagogue that he runs is, one person familiar with Jewish philanthropy tells me, “bonkers.” It’s about 1000x the size of his foundation’s usual donation & unheard of in the community.

EXCLUSIVE: The day after the big @nytimes exposé, scandal-struck George Santos revived the dissolved mystery company through which he had claimed to have earned between $3.5 million & $11 million. Very odd. Read the scoop from @nlanard & me. Please RT too.

A big question is where did newly-elected GOPer Goerge Santos get his millions. He had no assets & a $55K salary in 2020 but $3.5m to $11.5m in income in 2021/22. It all has to do with a mystery firm he has not fully explained. Read our scoop:

I did a quick read of the just-released House Ways and Means Committee report on Donald Trump's tax returns and shot out a few tweets. Here they are as a thread.

nytimes.com/interactive/20…
This is quite interesting. During the Trump years, the Trump IRS did not submit Trump's tax returns to the mandatory audits they were supposed to receive. Senate Democrats, perhaps next month you should ask why.
From the House Ways and Means report on Trump's taxes, here is a passage suggesting that Trump, @IvankaTrump, Eric, and @DonaldJTrumpJr were up to some fishy stuff.

A judge just ordered Trump, Junior & Ivanka to appear for depositions in NYAG James civil investigation case.

Remember, the Trumps don't do too well when it comes to testifying accurately during depositions. 1/3
