Cat Tank, 2020
Cardboard and glue

Modeled after a Polish TK-3 tankette. Created for Detective Blueberry in honor of @nhyphenc’s birthday.
I was so worried she wouldn’t want to use it. As long as I fill it with catnip and fresh crinkly paper, Detective spends most of her days inside the tank.
Someone asked how I chose the TK-3 to model this after. I know nothing about tanks so I needed something to go off. At first I was looking at Japanese tanks, but then quickly decided I needed to go with an ally given the nature of WWII.
I wanted to find something without a turret, as I’ve never modeled in cardboard before (or anything else for that matter) and didn’t want to deal with articulated components.
I googled for small tanks and came across the “tankette”- bingo, something that sounds really silly! Little 1-2 person tanks that were generally ineffective in battle. Perfect for me and Detective.
The TK-3 was the predecessor to the more popular TKS. It’s more or less symmetrical and convex so much easier to build.
I had to shorten the overall profile to make it so Detective was visible when sitting in it. I decided against the top hatch and made a few simplifications to the chassis but it’s a relatively faithful cardboard reproduction of the real thing.
