My eyes are tired from side eyeing and eyerolling at the blatant gaslighting of teachers, the weaponizing of parents against teachers, comparison of nurses vs teachers, and all the lies folk are telling themselves with #hygienetheatre#wewontdieforDOE
I have to ask why these pinterest teachers are spending their own money to make pandemic education look cute, while still placing kids next to each other, in schools where masks are not required. Is it for likes? Why add more surfaces to clean? Can we stop gaslighting ourselves!
Lets talk about the mold, lead in water, PCBs. Lets talk about 100 year old buildings with out of date HVAC systems. Lets stop trying to put lipstick on a pig. Our schools have been crumbling for years. EdDeform made social distancing more difficult. Break this down.
Custodians should not carry the weight of this reopening on their backs, like the silly ghostbuster packs that are being rationed across the city. Hire more custodial staff, give more hours to them, give them all the tools and equipment and supplies they will need.
Lets talk about how now parents are NOW fully aware of why we send home back to school lists as long as a CVS receipt asking for cleaning supplies in addition to communal school supplies . Not every school gets funded the same. Uncover that inequity...
Call out teacher bashing. Why? Because when teachers are silenced, you send kids into schools with unresolved issues, unhealthy conditions, and warped profit focused methods that squander funds.

Shouts out to the teachers and parents from SMS and Hunter who came through on tonights PEP to discuss the problems at the MLK campus. While I agree that being int the basement and never having natural light is a problem, jt is a function of these small schools sharing old bldgs
What needs to happen is a simplfying of the high schools in NYC. An end to the lies of many themed schools that have a sell by date and crash and burn. We need stable schools that are well staffed with teachers not admin.
All schools should offer arts, music, dance and drama, all schools ahould offer proper science labs and a choice of languages and electives. If all the schools in the MLK building were united and had access to the whole building, it wouldnt be an issue that only one gets no light
What does one do when faced with a nonsense report where half the answers are no or custodian and or principal unsure? Does one get on a train go into a building not yet certified as safe to participate in professional development that is done remotely anyway?
Even if granted enough time to work in ones room and on bulletin boards, some rooms may not be usable. Like the 103 classrooms mentioned at the MLK campus.
The union has a moral imperative to protect its members and make sure their working conditions are safe. If a pandemic and botched response is not a reason to strike, ... #healthjustice
then we will never have a better more valid reason to exercise our collective power as a union to demand improvements to our working conditions. Nothing else will compare. #healthjustice
