Shouts out to the teachers and parents from SMS and Hunter who came through on tonights PEP to discuss the problems at the MLK campus. While I agree that being int the basement and never having natural light is a problem, jt is a function of these small schools sharing old bldgs
What needs to happen is a simplfying of the high schools in NYC. An end to the lies of many themed schools that have a sell by date and crash and burn. We need stable schools that are well staffed with teachers not admin.
Teachers who are nursing moms, teachers whose kids have cancer, teachers with elderly dependent parents... the fear and frustration is real. This wont be a restful weekend. @AntiSoylent@jimmyrails1@NYCDOE_Teachers@aero_kleen@MOREcaucusUFT
What does one do when faced with a nonsense report where half the answers are no or custodian and or principal unsure? Does one get on a train go into a building not yet certified as safe to participate in professional development that is done remotely anyway?
We shall see ...
The union has a moral imperative to protect its members and make sure their working conditions are safe. If a pandemic and botched response is not a reason to strike, ... #healthjustice
Corruptus incredibils. We need to be #remote we need flexibility and we need options for outdoor learning. But before all that delay the opening and hit pause !
Cancel all state tests. Grant waivers for this year again. This is not business as usual. #red4ednyc#healthjustice#nycschoolsdeserve

My eyes are tired from side eyeing and eyerolling at the blatant gaslighting of teachers, the weaponizing of parents against teachers, comparison of nurses vs teachers, and all the lies folk are telling themselves with #hygienetheatre#wewontdieforDOE
I have to ask why these pinterest teachers are spending their own money to make pandemic education look cute, while still placing kids next to each other, in schools where masks are not required. Is it for likes? Why add more surfaces to clean? Can we stop gaslighting ourselves!

we are supposed to go back in a month
In this magic world envisioned by Cuomo and Deblasio employers will allow parents to just come in some days and not other days, and the employee (parent) will be allowed to say what days they need off *every week* to watch their kids while they're on their remote days...

Teacher: Do the schools still have a supply budget?
Admin: Yes, and no.
Teacher: How are we expected to be able to afford enough supplies so that students don’t have to share without having Teachers Choice money / supply funding?
Admin: Be thoughtful about supplies
Teacher: Are we going to be reprimanded for not wanting to grade papers that students have touched and breathed all over and brought from their homes?
Admin: Use Google classroom
Teacher: So we are going back to be online again?
Admin: yes and no

As we prepare for the uncertainty and confusion regarding the return of school, please keep the receipts for *anything* you purchase in order to teach online this fall…
new office chairs
upgraded laptops, tablets, and smart phones
enhanced internet service
professional development classes or workshops
home renovations or remodeling that need to be done to create a suitable online teaching “space” in your apartment or house
Teachers are trying to get guaranteed safe working conditions for themselves and safe learning conditions for your kids. Join the fight. #red4ednyc#nycschoolsdeserve#healthjustice
Teachers are not trying to get paid to sit at home. If your kid doesn't log on we cannot teach live. That is why we made videos, slideshows, and handouts. Your kid cannot sit tethered to a laptop the whole day. We need to be realistic about the amount and pace of work.

I want to post this to nyc teachers FB page anonymously. If I weren't afraid of my vindictive principal, I'd post it myself. But I need my paycheck and pension. So I hide behind the keyboard.
If you get the time, please read. (1)

My heart is literally breaking for my students. I have received no less than 10 emails expressing real concern about the amount of work and time required from online class. I have given what is demanded of me from admin: bell-to-bell full on lessons (2)
