Today, August 12, is a day forever engrained in the memories of Susan Bro and Haifa Jabara. Their children, #KhalidJabara and #HeatherHeyer, were murdered in hate crimes on the same day, one year apart. Our thoughts are with both families on this difficult day.
As @SusanBro7 and Haifa Jabara wrote last year: "As any mother who has lost a child knows, there are no words to adequately convey the sense of loss & pain."

#JabaraHeyerNOHATEAct
They are united by more than grief & shared anniversary. Khalid & Heather's murders were not reflected in hate crime data. Both were high profile #hatecrimes & prosecuted as such. Yet they weren’t included in the federal govt’s count of hate crime data.

#JabaraHeyerNOHATEAct
#Hatecrimes are notoriously undercounted. If these high-profile hate crimes were not captured in data-imagine all of the other names and stories that are not reflected in the data as well. Data drives policy. We need an accurate picture of hate crimes to adequately address them.
That is why the families of Khalid Jabara and Heather Heyer came together to fight for better hate crime reporting and data collection. The #KhalidJabara and #HeatherHeyer NO HATE Act, named after both victims, would improve data collection and reporting.

#JabaraHeyerNOHATEAct
Both families are advocating for policy change so no other family has to bear the loss of their child and the realization that their tragic murder was not counted. The House passed the #JabaraHeyerNOHATEAct in May – now it is time for the Senate to act.
