The case has been assigned to Judge James Boasberg. I know him a little. In my opinion, he is a good judge & a fair minded person. He is also the chief of the FISA Court at the moment. He was a judge in the Superior Court - the local DC court - before becoming a federal judge./2
Waiving the grand jury is very common in white collar cases where there is going to be a plea entered. It will be included as one of the terms of the plea agreement, which hasn't been filed in this case yet./3
We might see Judge Boasberg recuse himself & the case be reassigned. In DC assignment is done randomly on a wheel. Judge Boasberg has made some rulings as the FISA chief about the Carter Page warrants & FBI misleading the FISC. He may decide he shouldn't handle this too. /4
