At the heart of the #examshambles is a double disgrace; one, the social and racial profiling that led to the conclusion that only "good schools" (white, well-off) get good results, and two, the conclusion that people who challenge that prejudice shouldn't get the chance to try.
If you examine that belief, you'll see that this leads directly to the idea that certain groups of people (poor, working-class) might as well not go to school at all.
And why, do you ask, would a Government built on lies, propanda and the weaponization of ignorance prefer an uneducated electorate?
Because it keeps them in power.
Because uneducated people are easier to handle.
The young people who have just received their exam results fall into two categories. The windfall, as always, has been given to those who, according to the profiling, are most likely to be future Tory voters. The rest of them have been thrown on the pile.
If that's you, remember this.
Johnson is assuming that, by the next election, you will have forgotten what he did, or better still, lost faith in the system altogether.
Don't do that. Register to vote. Don't believe them when they tell you that your voice doesn't matter.
And as for those teachers in schools that have been judged as "lacking": you too have been thrown onto the pile. A Tory algorithm has decided that your work doesn't matter.
Having taught in one privileged school and in some very underprivileged ones, I can say from experience that teachers work just as hard, and with just as much passion, in both. And both kinds of school have both talented and not-so-talented pupils.
So if you've been treated unfairly by this vile and complacent Government, know this: I see you. We see you. We need you, now more than ever. Dream big. And don't believe their bullshit.
