The postal nominees that Bernie blocked were Republican white men picked by Mitch McConnell and opposed by the NAACP and the AFL-CIO because they wanted to privatize the Postal Service and represented the payday lending industry. I was the staffer who placed the hold. Receipt:
Here are the pictures of the Republican white men that were picked by Mitch McConnell to serve on the Postal Board of Governors who Bernie blocked because they were strongly opposed by the NAACP and AFL-CIO.
As Ronald Reagan's OMB Director in 1988, James Miller, 1 of the Postal nominees Bernie blocked said: “There is no good reason why [the Postal Service] should remain part of the U.S. government and no good reason why it should enjoy a monopoly over the delivery of letter mail.”
During his 2012 confirmation hearing, James Miller, the postal nominee Bernie blocked said: “I think it would be best for the world, for the economy, and for the American people if the Postal Service was de-monopolized and privatized.” postal-reporter.com/blog/dont-put-…
The NAACP & AFL-CIO wrote a letter against the postal nominees Bernie blocked stating: "we are especially troubled by the nominations of Mickey D. Barnett, who has previously worked as a lobbyist for the payday lending industry & of James C. Miller, III." postal-reporter.com/blog/apwu-fede…
There was 1 other postal nominee who Bernie opposed, but did not officially block, because he wanted to slash union jobs, undermine collective bargaining, cut benefits & reduce mail delivery from 6 days to as little as 3 days. That was Stephen Crawford. postalreporternews.net/2012/07/04/edi…
Bernie did not block the rest of the slate of postal nominees. We were told that at least 1 anonymous Republican Senator did. (And in case you were wondering, yes, Stephen Crawford is also a white man.) Here's his picture:
In 2012, Bernie led a coalition to stop a plan by the Postal Service to close 15,000 post offices, 252 mail processing plants and substantially slow down mail delivery. There was a very good chance that if these nominees had been confirmed they would have resurrected that plan.
