1/ ARE THAI ACTIVISTS BEING ABDUCTED?

At 4:30PM on June 4, Wanchalearm Satsaksit, an activist in exile, was on the phone w/ his sister. "I can't breathe," he said & the line was abruptly cut.

Security camera footage reportedly shows a black SUV departing his condo around then Image
2/ A known dissident, Wanchalearm often exercised his right to freedom of expression online. He faces charges of sedition in Thailand & Thai authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in 2018. Thai authorities allegedly requested his extradition from Cambodia in the past. Image
3/ He is among dozens of political activists from Thailand who have sought asylum in neighbouring countries following political unrest in the country in the last decade. Many left after military authorities took power in a coup in May 2014 and issued summons for them. Image
4/ Nine Thai activists who sought exile in neighbouring countries have gone missing in recent years.

The bodies of two of those activists were found stuffed with concrete in the Mekong River in December 2018.

Wanchalearm's whereabouts remain unknown. Image
5/ Despite suspicions of official involvement, none of the perpetrators has been identified, and no independent, thorough or effective investigation is known to have taken place.
6/ Neighbouring states – including the Lao and Vietnamese governments – have not exercised due diligence in investigating this pattern of abductions of Thai nationals whose extradition to face charges of lèse majesté had been sought by Thai authorities.

7/ We are concerned of the possibility that neighbouring authorities – including Cambodia - have colluded with Thailand in recent years in the forcible return of wanted individuals who would face human rights violations if returned to their respective countries.
8/ Take action. Sign this appeal by @AmnestyThailand demanding that Cambodian authorities thoroughly and effectively investigate his disappearance and seek to establish his whereabouts.

One of the demands of the union was to ask for an annual salary increment. Their salary is minimum wage (previously RM1100, now RM1200), and stays the same throughout their career, regardless of working experience.

#CleanerJugaFrontliner
But in a country where cost of living is high and rising, this isn't enough for cleaners to support their families.

Image
3/ “Selepas potongan pencen dan keselamatan sosial pembersih hanya dapat membawa pulang lebih kurang RM1,000 (US$233) – di sebuah negara di mana anggaran gaji kehidupan wajarnya adalah sebanyak RM2,700 (US$633) sebulan untuk seorang.”

1/ "KALAU KITA SENYAP, KITA TAK AKAN DAPAT HAK KITA."

As contract workers, cleaners are often paid the min. wage (RM1,200), don't receive annual pay rises or benefits like permanent contracts, 15 days of paid public holidays, annual leave, bonuses, retrenchment compensation. Image
2/ One worker we spoke to had been a cleaner for over 20 years. Her salary was RM1200. Her benefits had actually reduced over the course of her career -- a health benefit from RM1,200 to RM200, for example.

"Dari mana kita boleh mintak hak kita?" she asked. Image
3/ "After pension and social security deductions, cleaners’ average take-home pay is usually closer to RM1,000 (US$233)—in a country where the estimated living wage is nearly three times that, or RM2,700 (US$633) a month for a single person."
