I am an election nerd, always have been always will be, and my colleagues at @NBCNews have given me (and all of us) a great and critically important gift.
PLAN YOUR VOTE: A state-by-state guide to voting by mail and early in-person voting. nbcnews.com/specials/plan-…
Shared this before, but here’s the voting machine I got for my 26th birthday. From the 2000 Florida recount, hanging chads and all. My wife made me take it to storage. I don’t blame her. I keep it as a reminder of how many people are still disenfranchised by barriers to voting.
And here’s a video I made when last year I got this machine which dates to 1800s. Paper ballots. Locked box. Pretty sure it’s an Acme and it was designed to ensure an honest vote, according to @smithsonian. Reminder that we can have safe and secure voting.
While you’re here: there’s absolutely no good reason whatsoever we vote on Tuesdays. (Obviously please do everything you can to make it happen if, like in Mississippi, it’s your only option.) And thank you for coming to my actual @WhyTuesday TED Talk.
Here are the ways you can use the @NBCNews and @MSNBC#PlanYourVote tool to make sure your voice is heard and your vote is counted on (or before!) Election Day.
Thanks @3rdHourTODAY for allowing me to unleash my inner election nerd.
At least I admit it.

Studying the science of wildfire with @NASA means you get to set one yourself. We got an exclusive look inside the FireSense mission, part of an Earth Science program at risk due to potential Trump administration budget cuts. Our @nbcnightlynews report: nbcnews.com/nightly-news/v…
The fire of the future could see scientists fighting blazes. More from our days of reporting with multiple federal agencies -- including NASA, DOD and USDA -- who make FireSense possible in our @TODAYshow report: today.com/video/how-nasa…
@TODAYshow "Among the proposals were... a greater than 50 percent cut to Earth science, down to $1.033 billion," reports @sciguyspace for @arstechnica. arstechnica.com/space/2025/04/…
NEW: President Trump's hiring freeze has stopped the onboarding of seasonal federal firefighters, including those who work for agencies called on to help battle the devastating L.A. fires, creating a potential shortfall ahead of the next fire season. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/t…
A Bureau of Land Management official involved in hiring said, “The level of stupidity and negligence here is enraging.”
“What if there’s nobody to show up? How many people died with garden hoses in their hands?” the person said.
“I think it’s a slap in the face to these brave men and women who are out there contributing to the public service and saving communities.” nbcnews.com/news/us-news/t…
Very sorry to hear the @latimes shut its Olympic Printing Plant after 30 years. I toured it in 2007, when I was vlog-reporting for @laobserved. It was amazing and everyone was so welcoming and kind, as you can see.
South Carolina’s remarkable economic growth is changing the electorate. We went inside BMW’s massive plant (where I took a mallet to a $200K car), and to West Greenville, where the Black population has declined as prices force residents out, to learn more.
“Within the next five years, I believe this neighborhood won’t be recognizable by those who once knew it.”
Six years ago, Trump officials held a Valentine's Day meeting in which deliberately separating migrant kids from parents was proposed. Thousands ultimately were.
Two years after creating a task force to reunite them, Biden's DHS says over 600 have been, but 998 remain separated.
Biden admin's task force, led by @MichelleBrane, says the "number of new families identified continues to increase, as families come forward and identify themselves as separated under the previous administration’s zero-tolerance policy." dhs.gov/news/2023/02/0…
Meanwhile, as it reunites families separated by a Trump policy Biden himself called "criminal," his admin is fighting them in court as they seek financial restitution for trauma they endured. Here's just one example, reported by @ElviaMalagon. chicago.suntimes.com/2023/2/1/23579…
