Wow. A lot to digest here. But reading new Senate Intel report about Paul Manafort's relationship with Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian intelligence officer, & who should pop up but Frank Mermoud. This has never been properly explored. But Mermoud is Arron Banks's business partner ImageImage
Frank Mermoud became a director of Arron Banks's private intelligence firm Precision Risk & Intelligence in July 18 & resigned March 19. ImageImage
Mermoud is described as doing 'outreach' for the Ukrainian government including at the RNC convention in 2016 (which Farage attended), making introductions to Manafort & Ukrainian officials & trying to set up meeting between Trump & Ukrainian president
More here. Manafort & Kiliminik in November 2016 discussing 'The Frank project', ie Frank Mermoud project Image
I'll et into the Ukrainian connections in a bit but first some background. Kilimnik has long been considered a suspected spy. But this report states it as fact. Kilimnik was long-time business associate of this guy, Sam Patten. And they're both close associates of Manafort.. Image
More context. Sam Patten, whose business partner is a Russian spy, worked for Cambridge Analytica. He was a contractor who worked on US mid-terms in 2014 & on this partic dirty campaign in Nigeria in early 2015 in which they worked with Israeli psyops firm
theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/m…
So, just to come back to Arron Banks. Frank Mermoud showed up on one of his numerous companies 'Precision Risk & Intelligence' in summer 2018. A bit of an oddity. ImageImageImage
This was what we knew about him at the time. He was a key figure at July 2016 GOP convention & had strong ties to Ukraine. Later he oversaw diplomatic corps for Trump inauguration run by Tom Barrack
theguardian.com/us-news/2016/j…
(Side plot: Banks's ally in LeaveEU, Richard Tice? His business partner at one time was Tom Barrack. As @WendySiegelman has pointed out on here fairly regularly)

Right. Back to the juice. Here's the report stating categorically that Kilimnik is a a Russian intelligence officer. With 'close lasting relationship' with Manafort 'that would endure to 2016 US election & beyond'. Note the references to Deripaska. Lots of UK links there... Image
Oleg Deripaska who is *all over* this report has faced stiff sanctions in the US. Not in Britain tho! Here he owns his very own lord. Step forward Lord Barker, chair of EN+. Oh & don't forget how he got all cosy with @George_Osborne on that yacht..
dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2…
'On numerous occasions..Manafort sought to secretly share internal Campaign info with Kilimnik...Manafort briefed Kilimnik on sensitive Campaign polling data & campaign's strategy

'Manafort also discussed with Kilimnik a peace plan for Ukraine that benefited the Kremlin' Image
Oops, messed up thread. So, we're getting there: 'Following the election, Manafort worked with Kilimnik to undermine info showing that Russia interfered in 2016 US election'

Deripaska - who owns a British lord remember - also 'participated in these influence ops' Image
The report concludes the Manafort-Kilimnik relationship 'represented a grave counterintelligence threat' Image
So, before I get back to Mermoud. The report has extensive detail on Manafort-Kilimnik's close relationship in Ukraine. Plus a reminder about how how deeply the British establishment runs through this story. Here's Nat Rothschild who was also on that yacht with Osborne & co Image
And here's an interesting footnote. Sam Patten was recruited by Kilimnik to run what the report describes as a Kremlin-funded influence operation in Ukraine at the same time he's working for Cambridge Analytica. Image
Another cul-de-sac but may as well mark the appearance of Dmytro Firtash. Indicted oligarch, ex-biz partner of Manafort...AND Jack Wakefield - brother of Mary married to Dom. He's a director on his foundation. No, no-one has any idea why or how Image
Well, here's another interesting tidbit. There's a lot of detail about the polling data Manafort was passing to Kilimnik, the Russian spy. The report has new info about how it was coming from Anthony Fabrizio, a long-time Manafort associate. But fascinating detail incoming... Image
The report notes that the polling data was processed by Cambridge Analytica Image
Gosh. There's so much here. I always thought this stuff about the polling data was likely red herring, but look at the detail & the importance they put on it. And what was 'the sensitive stuff'?!? Notice the footnote, 'Manafort refused to elaborate further on the sensitive stuff' Image
Right. One more point before I get to dramatic entree of Arron Banks's biz partner. Manafort resigns on Aug 19 when NY Times reveals his secret Ukraine payments. I'll come back to this later. Report notes Kilimnik still tight with Manafort & Manafort still tight with campaign Image
Enter Frank Mermoud, who, at some point after this, became Arron Banks's business partner. Mermoud reaches out to Manafort on behalf of the Ukrainian embassy Image
Apologies. I had to break off to gently despair. Four years & not a single UK investigation into any part of this.
So, it was at RNC convention in 2016 that Trump's language on Russian invasion into Ukraine changed. Mermoud introduced the Ukrainian ambassador to Manafort at the convention who was 'upset' and who Manafort tried to 'mollify' Image
Mermoud then reached out to Rick Gates 'with something of extreme interest'. And tried to fix meeting between President Poroshenko & Trump Image
Manafort & Kilimnik 'secretly co-ordinated' with Kilimnik seeking to leverage Manafort's contacts with Trump administration specifically with regard to 'the Ukraine plan'. Report says he passed messages from pro-Putin ex-Yankovych to Manafort on 'plan to resolve Ukraine conflict' Image
So, it's pretty extraordinary. The pro-Kremlin ex-president Yankovych has come up with a plan. He's trying to get the current president Poroshenko to agree to it. And he's using Manafort as the key to push Trump into doing it Image
Mermoud is about to re-appear but first this line is important. 'Kilimnik almost certainly arrange some of the first public messaging that Ukraine interfered in the US election.' And he did so via an FT journalist in Kiev... Image
Re-enter Frank Mermoud. 'After receiving Kilimnik's Nov 10 email, Manafort messaged Gates, 'This makes the Frank project even more timely.' Manafort then got Mermoud to set up call between Trump & Poroshenko. OMG this is so nuts. This is the Kremlin's plan. Which they've executed Image
NOTE: 'Beyond a brief readout of the call provided by the Ukrainian government, the substance of the call is unknown' Image
Mermoud then sets up a meeting between Manafort & the Ukrainian ambassador. The ambassador has 'information to share' Image
Fast forward to 2018. Kilimnik & Patten have developed a plan for eastern Ukraine. And Manafort is trying to get the same guy who he got the Trump polling data from to do polling in Ukraine. Image
There's just so much here that's relevant to UK. 'Oleg Deripaska has acted as a proxy for the Russian state & Russian intel services...he's directed active measures...to install pro-Kremlin regimes across the globe'

He owns a lord! He's holidayed with George Osborne! Image
I can't go on for much longer. But if you want to know why #RussiaReport was suppressed, see this as just one eg. Deripaska asked Nat Rothschild to create a phony job for Chernukin - yes that Chernukin, the one who gave £££ to Boris Johnson - to get a visa
thetimes.co.uk/article/rothsc…
A couple more things. Mermoud is also a director of another of Banks’s companies, his new cannabis oil/iodine outfit, Iofina. New fact: Lord Ashcroft also seems to be involved. Image

NEW: I’ve found an opaque financial vehicle owns a large chunk of the Observer. And neither it or the Guardian will say who it is. Why?

Well there is a clue. Which goes by way of Saudi Arabia…
1/ Image
The capture of US media orgs is accelerating. And the UK is next in line. The BBC has fallen to an AI hype guy. And my old newspaper, the Observer, is publishing Palantir puff pieces.

But why? I set out to find out..
2/

open.substack.com/pub/broligarch…
In Companies House I found the Observer has a mystery investor: the North Hatley Trust.

Who is the North Hatley Trust? Good question!

There’s only the tiniest bit of public info about it. With one important clue..

NEW: Will Google's AI hype man kill the BBC?

I've written about Matt Brittin because the coverage of his time at Google is shockingly naive.

The BBC's next DG made his career as a yes man at a rapacious AI monopoly that preys on news journalism in order to destroy it.
1/ Image
Out of a shortlist of 5, 4 were women with decades of experience of public service broadcasting. And one man with none at all: Matt Brittin.

But that maybe the least of his problems...
2/
thenerve.news/p/matt-brittin…
The BBC's profile quotes sources "close" to Matt Brittin to deliver a fawning portrait of an "inspirational leader". Only he's never led anything.

Brittin is a middle manager whose job was to stop Google being regulated and grow the business like late stage cancer.

Distracted by the slaughter of children in Iran & Lebanon? Me too! But what better time could there be for govt to quietly relaunch its Digital ID plan?

Missed it? Me too! But look who’s celebrating…

The director of ‘govt innovation’ at the Tony Blair Institute!
1/
The govt noisily scrapped Digital ID after huge pushback when nobody bought its ‘it’ll solve immigration’ bollocks. But as markets tanked last week - kudos to the comms team! - it was discreetly re-launched with all-new messaging: a ‘common sense solution to everyday probs’
2/
Darren Jones, Cabinet Office secretary, put out a press release claiming the govt will be holding a ‘consultation’.

NOT: ‘Do you want the govt & unknown tech companies to have all your data?’

BUT: (I kid you not): ‘At what age should you be able to get a digital id?’ 🤔

Congrats to all the news orgs that signed syndication deals with this company. You’ve licensed your journalism to be a core component of Trump’s illegal war machine. Great job everyone 👏
A special shoutout to the editor-in-chief & CEO of the Guardian, Kath Viner & Anna Bateson. The deal with OpenAI was an unforced error which legitimised OpenAI’s illegal scraping of Guardian data & IP. In exchange for a quick buck. The NYTimes, in contrast, chose to sue.
Anthropic stood up to Trump. But OpenAI has capitulated. And now all its ‘partners’ are complicit in the consequences.

That includes Guardian. It will financially benefit from its journalists’ work - inc mine - being used to support Trump’s illegal wars & ICE’s reign of terror.

PREDICTION: If Andrew is charged (no assumption of guilt etc), we are going to have a crisis of both the press & judiciary.

In Britain, it is an offence to publish ANY info on defendant beyond bare facts.

But! US outlets can print whatever they like…
1/
Contempt of court is foundational principle of British justice: press must not prejudice a jury trial.

Editors risk a prison sentence if found in breach.

Even in digital age, the law held…but how could it possibly withstand deluge of US coverage in a case like this??
3/
Short answer: it won’t. Far right agitator Tommy Robinson weaponised UK laws on contempt as a ‘cover up’ over grooming scandal. And the New Yorker ignored & published on Lucy Letby.

If Andrew is charged, it’ll trigger a crisis for both the press & judiciary

NEW: Our investigation for @thenerve_news reveals not only that Peter Thiel’s Palantir is completely enmeshed in our critical national infrastructure.

It’s also the ‘cloud support’ for our nuclear weapons system
1/ Image
Palantir’s stated mission is to defend America. Peter Thiel is a radical libertarian who does not believe ‘freedom & democracy are compatible’.

Yet, the UK is overwhelmingly dependent on Palantir’s services. As a national security threat, this is off the charts.
2/ Image
Please read the piece with comments from tech & national security experts.

We have no national security while we rely on highly political US Silicon Valley firms that are enmeshed in Trump’s increasing fascistic administration.
