Alright ladies and gentlemen, time for a lesson on CBRN Mounted Reconnaissance featuring my NBCRV platoon, the Four Horsemen of 1st PLT
/1
Mounted Recon platoons come in 3 flavors in active duty. ABCT engineer battalions (BEBs) have 2 NBCRV platoons (one team), SBCT BEBs, have 3 NBCRV platoons (still one team) and Hazard Response Companies have 4 NBCRV platoons giving us 2x teams. /2
While some see Mounted Recon platoons (NBCRV PLTs from now on) as mobile unmasking devices, they really serve two major functions for maneuver commanders: MOBILITY and SECURITY (not on the TOC) /3
NBCRV platoons provide mobility to maneuver commanders through the rapid identification (both physically and through sensors) of contamination, and the ability to mark bypass routes to prevent contamination of friendly units and retain combat power. 4/
While NBCRV ground sensors are providing mobility, our standoff chemical and point biological detectors are providing security to maneuver commander by providing early and accurate warning of Chem/bio threats. (NBCRV collecting on NAI while camoflauged) 5/
But these are just basic missions. NBCRVs are our most agile, armored, and lethal asset the Chem corps has to support maneuver. While our Decon assets are soft, and BN CBRN cells are trapped in the TOC, NBCRVs can be leveraged to execute site surveys to assess the viability of 6/
Operational and Thorough Decon sites for the brigade, meaning Decon missions will take less time to set up, and our assets can get back in the fight faster. 7/
In conclusion, don’t sleep on your NBCRV PLTs. Plan for them as a mobility asset to maintain the brigade’s tempo. Incorporate them into the brigade’s ISR plan. Keep them moving. They’re a tremendous asset for your brigade that’s capable of doing much than pulling TOC guard /end
