Haven't updated my independence polling graph for a while. Here it is. The trend is abundantly clear. This image should chill the hearts of all who want social and economic justice in Scotland because, make no mistake, dividing the UK will catastrophically harm those causes. 
This is the abject failure of the rational Scottish left. Independence is becoming a compelling option of hope and opportunity simply because we have offered no trustworthy, believable alternative. But it is a false hope that will make Scots poorer and their lives more difficult.
We are in the last chance saloon. But the answer is not the final Ulsterisation of Scottish politics, uniting behind one unionist coalition for the 2021 election. That would instead be capitulation to the false notion that the constitutional question is fundamental. It is not.
The wellbeing of the people of Scotland is and always will be intrinsically linked to the wellbeing of all the people of these islands. Trades unions teach us that unity is strength. History teaches us that division empowers reactionaries, and turns co-operation into competition.
We have little time left to construct an argument against the bad choices being promoted through populism. Brexit must be our lesson. People *will* vote to make themselves poorer, and then blame those who warned them against it when it happens. Our only chance to fix this is now.
