I was a huge skeptic of online convention — but last night’s DNC production was the beauty pageant of actual Americans + collective cry we all needed, and I can’t stop thinking about wonderful it was, how defiant of bad narrative about who we are and what matters. /1
Watching all the tribal nation reps vote for their states, often in languages they struggle to preserve as living tongues, was such a reminder of this richness of culture after years of events like when POTUS stood in front of Navajo code talkers and called Warren Pocahontas /2
So many stories from people who want a better America — the yearning for which is a sin in the cult of Trump. Better to sink to the bottom with a confederate monument strapped to you than point out that we deserve better. That it can be better. That the quest for better is us /3
Anyway, I guess my point is — the political conventions have always been hot garbage; this is a much better vehicle for storytelling that reaches Americans; & if there is a ever a physical, in-person convention again, it will only be for the hookers & blow, don’t kid yourself /4
