And you may have seen them announced previously, but the Aes Sedai would not be complete without Priyanka Bose (@priyankabose20) as Alanna, along with her trusted Warders, Ihvon (Emmanuel Imani) and Maksim (Taylor Napier).
With that, it’s time for book club! Some rules below for a productive conversation.
1) Please stick to chapters in discussion 2) Be kind and respectful
Chapter 39: Mat is getting meaner and more paranoid. He refuses to leave the room and argues with Rand, insisting Loial is a Trolloc. As a character, how are you feeling about Mat right now?
Chapter 39: Wearing red is to support Queen Morgase and wearing white is for those who believe her involvement with the Aes Sedai is to blame for everything going wrong. Rand wears red. What are you wearing and why?
Chapter 39: While in captivity and being paraded around as a public spectacle, why does Logain laugh?
Chapter 40: Galad wants to attack Rand and then sicks the guards on him even after his younger brother and sister (who is the heir to the throne), defend him.
Why do you think he doesn’t respect their opinions?
Chapter 40: Elayne says to Rand, “it’s not right” that Elaida uses her powers to make them a blooming flower garden while others can’t grow enough crops to eat and survive. What does this comment say about her character?
Chapter 40: Why does Queen Morgase just let Rand go, against the guidance of Gareth Bryne, Captain-General and her Aes Sedai advisor, Elaida?
Bonus Question: Rand + Elayne?
Chapter 41: Rand returns and Master Gill doesn’t believe his story about meeting the Queen at first. Why?
Chapter 41: Master Gill kicks the Whitecloaks out of the inn, knowing that they’ll return and cause trouble but he doesn’t care and feels heroic instead. Is this because he finally stood up to them or because he protected the friends of his fallen pal, Thom Merrilin?
Chapter 41: Moiraine, Lan, Egwene, Perrin and Nynaeve arrive at the inn, finding Mat afflicted with the dagger’s evil. Moiraine tells them Darkfriends & Shadowspawn sense the evil dagger & it could infect the world with evil too. How can such a small dagger be so powerful?
Chapter 41: Moiraine warned the boys "don't let anyone give you anything" but Mat assumed taking something would be ok as long as he wasn't actually given it. Are either of these reasonable assumptions or could better communication have prevented this?
Chapter 42: Mat is better but can’t be healed completely until Moiraine gets the help of more Aes Sedai. He is still bonded with the dagger. Can Mat be trusted?
Chapter 42: Moiraine is surprised to meet an Ogier as few leave the stedding now she claims. Why do you think the Ogier prefer not to deal with humans?
Chapter 42: Rand discusses his dreams of Ba'alzamon with the Aes Sedai and wonders if Moraine intends to use one of the boys as a False Dragon. Does she? After 42 chapters, what do you think Moiraine’s REAL plans are for them?
That’s a wrap for today. Next Wednesday we’ll be reading chapters 43-46, so make sure to set your bookmarks and your alarms for 10AM PST on September 2nd!
