SPD sociopath Micah Smith #7714 involuntarily committed people to score a date w/ an ambulance driver

(1/18)

(THREAD)
According to a 2016 OPA investigation, officer Smith involuntarily committed at least two people on sketchy legal grounds in order to see an ambulance driver he was romantically interested in.

(2/18)
OPA obtained texts that Smith sent to the woman, who worked for an ambulance service that carries patients transferred into the custody of mental health providers.

(3/18)
In two of the texts, Smith implied that he would commit people with the hope that she might get the call and he’d have a chance to see her again.

(4/18)
OPA found two involuntary commitments for which the basis “was not clearly obvious based on the report.” They matched up with the texts Smith sent.

(5/18)
What’s more, these texts were completely unsolicited. The woman never gave Smith her phone number. He used a law enforcement database to get it from a case where she was listed as a witness.

(6/18)
The texts made her feel uncomfortable and she dreaded being assigned to SPD calls.

(7/18)
Once, after Smith had sent her these texts, she was sent on a call and saw him. She didn’t want to leave her ambulance and was unable to perform her duties. She requested a transfer

(8/18)
Smith was given an 8-day suspension and training “regarding the use of this important law enforcement authority.” He’s still on the force making $103k a year.

(9/18)
What Smith did was criminal—or at least it should be— and OPA treats it like some mundane policy issue. As if the real problem was that he used a database “inappropriately” or merely abused his authority.

Inappropriate behavior w/ women and stalking have gotten at least two SPD officers fired in the past decade. David Blackmer was fired after he was arrested for cyberstalking and posting explicit pictures of his ex-girlfriend online.

Peter Leutz was fired in 2015 after three women complained of unwanted advances. In one instance, he went to the house of a woman he pulled over to get her number, then texted her a hundred times in a month.

(11/18)
Leutz was later arrested for kidnapping a woman while working as an Uber driver

An underage high school student who interned w/ SPD through the Explorers program filed a complaint against Officer Rob Mahoney, claiming he tried to ram his tongue down her throat. He was also disciplined for sexual harassment. (13/18)

The Explorers are funded by the @SeattlePF, btw.

(14/18)
Mahoney is still on the job despite a number of discipline problems (excessive force, DV) that would require an entire thread to go over (more later). Here’s a photo of him at the barricade on 12 & Olive during the June protests

(15/18)
The leniency in Micah Smith’s case shows an indifference to crimes against women.

Speaking of which: Det. Leslie Smith (no relation), assigned to OPA as of Oct '19, left 50 open rape cases when she transferred out of the Sexaul Assault Unit.

One rape victim told the Seattle Times that Det. Smith seemed to side with her assailant. She claimed Smith appeared to blame her for the assault & lied about losing her rape kit.

(17/18)
The OPA seems to be far more concerned with protecting the city from liability and maintaining the appearance of a working process than they are with actually delivering justice and holding police accountable.
