Introducing, my concept of a People's Primary.

Many people are tired of the political parties having all of the power in the first stage of our elections, here in the USA. If this concerns you, please promote this with the hashtag #PeoplesPrimary and please Continue Reading…
We call the process of privately owned political parties using caucuses and primaries a "primary election", but it's not really an election at all. Rather, it's a part of the process by which such privately owned organizations decide who the people can vote for in an election.
More accurately, the so-called primaries are a step in the process of privately owned political parties making an official decision about which candidates they will allow the people to have listed on the ballots of the actual election, known in the USA as the general election.
The way things are, it is very difficult for the people to directly get a supported candidate put on the ballot, or for a candidate to get on the ballot without being nominated by a political party. However, it is POSSIBLE. The exact process and requirements vary with local laws.
What I'm proposing is that the people should insist on having our own government run primary, in which we would be given an approval ballot listing all candidates registered with the FEC for each open political office or seat. The voter could then vote to approve any candidates.
Each approval vote cast would effectively count as a signature on a virtual petition to put the given candidate on the ballot in the second stage, the general election. That way no political party could deny the people having a candidate on the ballot that the people really want.
Because it's an approval vote, the voter would not have to narrow their support down to a single candidate. There would also be no need for anyone to circulate an actual petition to get the signatures of voters, although that would not cease to be an available course of action.
Now, I know some people will be concerned that this would give us more good options on the second stage ballot, possibly splitting the vote, but we can deal with that. Wouldn't you rather there be more than zero good candidates anyway? At least more than one is more than zero.
We need positive progressive political evolution and we need it fast. This proposed combination of a #BRIRE system and a #PeoplesCampaign would get us moving in that direction toward a better future for everyone. Please, help spread the word. We need this #PositiveChange.

Makes it easier to read. #PeoplesCampaign
This People's Primary concept and the associated Balanced Rational Instant Runoff Election Systems concept are part of the People's Campaign.

#PeoplesPrimary #BRIRES #PeoplesCampaign
Also, for the second stage, or general election, I propose we adopt a Balanced Rational Instant Runoff Election System, so that the potential of splitting the vote would no longer be an issue. Read about the #BRIRES concept at threadreaderapp.com/thread/1294115… if you would be so kind.
