Let's show wildland firefighters protecting Colorado that we support them & their families. The Wildland Firefighters Foundation assists families when firefighters are injured/killed. For #HeyNext's Word of Thanks, I match the first fifty $5 donations: wff.givecloud.co/product/DONATE… ImageImageImageImage
WFF is a well-respected non-profit vouched for by fire managers working the large fires in Western Colorado. They support firefighters throughout the Mountain West. WFF was founded after the Storm King Fire killed 14 firefighters in Colorado in 1994.
This is the 12th week of #HeyNext's Word of Thanks microgiving campaign. Your generosity has provided $375,000+ to a dozen small to mid-size Colorado non-profits since June. Thank you.
The photos in this thread are by Kyle Miller, a wildland firefighter from Wyoming who is working the Pine Gulch Fire north of Grand Junction.

NEW: #CO4 candidate State Rep @richard_holtorf unleashed a misogynist attack on GOP primary rival @laurenboebert today, saying Boebert dresses like a prostitute. "High heels, short skirt, low-cut blouse," Holtorf said on KNUS. "She needs to learn how to dress." #copolitics
Holtorf compared Boebert's outfits to prostitutes walking Colfax in Denver. "My five daughters, if they stood in front of me... dressed like Boebert, I would be disgusted," Holtorf said.
Holtorf is struggling to gain traction in a six-way GOP primary to replace Republican Ken Buck in Colorado's 4th Congressional District (DougCo, Loveland, Eastern Plains). Boebert holds an enormous fundraising and name ID advantage.

NEW: Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) will not seek the special election nomination to replace Rep Ken Buck (R) for the remainder of 2024, instead focusing on the GOP primary to replace him for a full two-year term. The primary and special election are both June 25. #copolitics
Boebert was unlikely to win the special election nod from GOP insiders in CO-4 after switching her district from CO-3 and if she had received the special election nomination and won the special election in June, she would have been forced to resign her current seat early.
Boebert holds a nearly 10x advantage in fundraising over GOP rivals Jerry Sonnenberg and Deb Flora (as of Jan) but she is likely to face an effort from more traditional GOP insiders to steer the special election nomination to one of her rivals, which could cause voter confusion.

The failure to cover and contextualize extremism and unprecedented political behavior is even more pronounced at the local news level, especially on local TV news. Why?
Perhaps it’s the fear of alienating any of the audience, despite the stakes. Perhaps it’s fear of the violent threats that journalists and their families receive after covering extremism. Maybe it’s disinterest, apathy, or the idea that such weighty topics should be left others.
But studies show as many American receive their news from local TV as cable, so refusing to cover extremism is a decision to not inform our neighbors of the threat.

NEW: Congressional candidate and GOP House Minority Leader @COrepLynch says he didn't think there was any reason to tell voters he was arrested in 2022 for drunk driving and a weapons charge because it's a "personal matter." #copolitics #coleg
@COrepLynch Lynch's BAC was more than double the legal limit when he was stopped going 90mph on I-25 by a state trooper who thought Lynch was trying to race him. The trooper said he feared for his safety as Lynch reached for a gun during the traffic stop.
@COrepLynch Lynch asked the trooper to contact the Colorado State Patrol's lobbyist at the Capitol, then later rescinded the request before telling the trooper he was a state legislator. Two minutes after Lynch's arrest, a CSP spokesman was notified but the arrest was kept under wraps.
