Shree Ganesh is the lord of Budhi and Sidhi. He is prayed as vighnaraaja. There are 16 names which every shastra and vedic ritual starts with which represents the 16 kalas. He is the pratham Devta with whom the shuba mangala savadhan mantra starts. These names in shloka are
सुमुखश्च-एकदंतश्च कपिलो गज कर्णक:
लम्बोदरश्व विकटो विघ्ननाशो विनायक:
धूम्रकेतुर्गणाध्यक्षो भालचन्द्रो गजानन:
द्वादशैतानि नामानि य: पठेच्छर्णुयादपि
विद्यारम्भे विवाहे च प्रवेशे निर्गमे तथा
संग्रामें संकटे चैव विघ्नस्तस्य न जयते।

Ganesha was a udhbhav avtar who was given praaana shakti by the jagath Janani Gowri Devi. She is nitya sumangali devi who always applies turmeric to her body. She had a will and made a small baby idol with the turmeric she used to bathe.
The idol had her sweat, the turmeric removed from her body. After mata gowri gave pranashakti into the idol , he became a beautiful young child. This was Nara Rupa Vinayaka and called as AADHI VINAYAKA.
There are age old Murtis available in Chidambaram and Rock Fort Temple. One such murti is from Mukteeshwar Temple, Thilatarpanapuri, TN, India.
Gajasura asura had boon that none other than a form with human body & gaja mukh can defeat him. The shivleela of attaching an elephant mukha to Ganesh was for jagath kalyana. Ganesha had shakti of jagath Janani, so shiv played the leela of Detaching the head of Nara mukha ganesha
Prajapati Vishwaroopa's 2 beautiful daughters, Riddhi and Siddhi, were selected to marry Lord Ganesha. Lord Shiva and Parvati celebrated the marriage of Ganesha to Riddhi and Siddhi, who bore him 2 sons named Labha and Kshema(shubh).
People prepare idols of Ganesha with mud and pray. After the celebrations the idol is mixed into the jala pravah. Ganesha gave a boon to Shree Gange, that on the Bhadrapadha Shudh Chaturthi the birth day of his, will be celebrated and the last day the idol is immersed into water
From the day of immersion ganesh will stay for 11 days from the day and accept all the nutrition through the waters of Ganga. Since then he will be said to be son of both the sisters Parvati and Ganga
People who can't prepare a mud idol can mix a little of mud with the turmeric and prepare a small Turmeric ganesha and shodasi aacharas are done. This is considered a very strong representation of Ganesha. People who by chance cant buy the idol on the same day can go for this.
In Dakshinachara turmeric vinayaka is very important through there is a mud idol in practice. The essence of both is the ultimate devotion and samarpan.
Every month Krishna paksha chaturti is celebrated as Sankashta or sankatahata chaturti. This day Vinayaka puja is done after doing the chandra darshan. On the day of Ganesha Chaturti the chandra darshan is not done due to a curse given to the moon.
On this day who ever sees the moon will be cursed with misunderstandings in life.That's the reason while reading the vrat katha the akshat are held in hands & offered to ganesha & saved If anyone watches the moon by mistake can place these akshat on their head for the forgiveness
During the samudhra manthan, when the asuras and devas tried to start churning the ksheer sagara with help of Mandara parvat, it happened to immerse itself along with the kachapa into the water. After innumerable trials they couldnt bring the parvat out of the water.
When devas approached to the tridevas, they guided them to pray Vignaraja vibayaka. They happen to forgot praying the ganesha before starting the manthan. Devas prayed Vighnaraja and took permission to proceed with the manthan and asked to remove obstacles for the lok kalyan.
Then the mandara parvata surfaced onto the water with the kachapa vishnu. This episode tells us the true importance of vighnaraja in anybody's life. A human's life is this manthana, the good & bad surfaces in life. To enjoy the benefits and goodness and face the bad with courage.
