Louis DeJoy has been the Post Master General for 67 days. He shouldn’t be PMG for another 67 seconds. He has already admitted to being unaware of at least 2 processes within the postal service. Those processes had to do with removal of blue collection boxes.
DeJoy is a talker. This format of hearing where he doesn’t get cues the time of the Senator is up is going to cause him to say things he probably shouldn’t. Especially as he tires. This should be instructive as the House prepares for next week. Sure @RepKatiePorter is watching.
Senator Carper has a hot mic ‘f....f....f...’ moment when he nearly misses his time to question DeJoy. Ah, 2020 covid zoom headings.
*Hearings. Petey mKing typing hard today.
Lankford R-OK Begins by down playing the seriousness of the issue of the day. Says the post office has never had delays prior to this Post Master General. You know, like we’re idiots and don’t know this is a disingenuous distraction from voter suppression. He employs bothsidism.
Lankford invokes USPS capacity at Christmas and Mother’s Day as a way of showing they have capacity to handle ballots for elections day. He displays the presence of Structural Racism by not considering the fact that you can vote even if you don’t celebrate Christmas.
Hassan D-NH great point. Just because volume may be down, doesn’t mean that volume you do have should be delayed. She explains patients rationing medications because they get it through the mail. DeJoy says he will not delay access to medications. How? Is mail see through?
Hassan: we only have 1 sorting machine where we used to have 4. If it breaks, we’re hosed. You don’t have plans to put these machines back on line. In fact you instructed maintenance to not to. Is that true?

DeJoy: I have no idea.
Scott R-FL Confirms vote by mail in Florida works. Does not make distinction between absentee and mail in because there isn’t one. Asks if post office needs a massive federal bailout to deliver votes on Election Day. DeJoy says no, he doesn’t need anything.
DeJoy Says he doesn’t need any funding, the ‘massive federal bailout’ Scott just mentioned, but then says he had to continue to deliver during covid while having no revenues. Essentially saying, I want your federal money, but don’t call it a bailout.
Rosen D-NV will you provide this committee minutes from meeting with non public board of governors by this Sunday?

DeJoy: No.

Rosen: Did you analyze how your disruptions would impact seniors, ?

DeJoy doesn’t really look at camera. Rosen asks him to look her in the eye.
Rosen takes the lead. The women are saving us! My wife came in and saw DeJoy on the screen and immediately was put off by his lack of eye contact. She said he’s body is answering the questions.
Paul R-KY doesn’t want to give money to the USPS unless they lose employees. He wants people working at the post office. Don’t let him tell you he is for jobs.
He wants to know what can happen to address the billions of dollars owed.
DeJoy answers we need pension reform. What does this mean though? The PRC was a Republican idea to fund the post office pension for the next 75 years all at once costing billions. Now republican appointees are begging Republicans to correct their own disastrous mistake.
Rand Paul never ceases to amaze. Not only does he advocate for less jobs at the post office, wants to cut back from 6 to 5 days delivery service. Why charge more for a guy who lives 20 miles down a dirt road, when you can just reduce service? Cuz that guy needs his meds Dr.Paul!
Romney R-UT says the president calls main fraud which gives rise to the question from the other side. Asks if the ballots will be there within election time frame including those received after Election Day. DeJoy again says by election night. State AG’s should take note of this.
Enzi R- WY Like Lankford, he bothsides this at the jump. There were problems for years. Hamhandedly tried to help Susan Collins re election efforts. Enzi feels picked on by the post office. He had a package not delivered. The horror! Mail your thoughts and prayers to Enzi.
That weird Collins endorsement makes a lot more sense now, Sen Enzi says he is concerned.
Enzi just perfectly encapsulated exactly what his voters are voting against. They wanted to drain the swamp. They put in Enzi who gets 7 minutes to ask questions of witnesses. Instead of using that precious time to fight for people In WY to get their deliveries, he gripes.
Hawley R-MO Bailouts are bad, you say need a loan though?

DeJoy: We are desperately in need of new vehicles.

I thought he said he needed nothing? When Scott asked if he needed a massive federal bailout, DeJoy said he needed nothing.
Sinema D-AZ says Arizonans are worried if their late arriving meds have expired and wonder if they will still be effective. That’s a big deal. Postal processing facility reductions will not take place until after election. Your vote could literally save your job. #USPSHearing
The language of Sen Ron Johnson is astonishing, uses term ‘well organized’ about the Democrats questions. Says ‘false narrative’. ‘Political hit piece’. Reminder he went to Moscow on July 4th for some reason. He is also ‘investigating’ Biden for trump’s election benefit.
Peters D-MI reminds Senators why they were elected, you know to stand up their constituents. Perhaps he is reminding Enzi to call customer service and have his tracking number ready.
Again, Johnson says the Democrats are using ‘highly scripted’ coordinated talk points, and the USPS issues are being ‘ginned up’. Doth protest too much? The RNC next week may be a highly scripted ginned up attack on Hunter Biden. We should prepare ourselves for that.

We are in the Both Sides Era. For what seems the past decade, we have been subjected to both sides of the news, normalizing the weird, accepting the inappropriate, and moving on from the unforgivable.
Both sides are not the same.

A wee Sunday morning coffee🧵👇🏻
We have been so conditioned to Both Sides everything that we immediately fall into one side or the other. We are sorting ourselves based on memes and shallow thinking. Reporters complaining about hotel experiences due to the DNC running late, isn’t news. That’s a yelp review.
Have you noticed trump is on both sides of every issue? Probably not, because the “press hasn’t yet learned how to report on trump.” Why is covering trump any different from what they learned in journalism school?

Why not ask him about his incongruities? Or a follow up question?

Did you ever hear the phrase: “they have so much money they don’t know what to do with it.”? Not a problem, I’ve ever run into myself, but Project 2025 is just that. Billionaires want to be bankers. They want to sell off our governmental oversight to private companies they own.
Here is Project 2025. There isn’t one part of our lives this won’t touch. Think it doesn’t mean you? There is no provision to exclude from its effects those who vote for fascism so choose your candidate wisely.

Here is the part where they will abolish the federal reserve. It will be replaced by currency they can “create” and then lend out at their own interest rates. Image

“There is no place for political violence” has been a pretty common refrain throughout the weekend. It really got me thinking. ”Political violence” must be one of those “you know it when you see it” types of things.

Let’s see…
🧵👇🏻
Political violence strikes me as a visual medium but there are so many things that occur before we see the blood that I think might be political violence. Are we just numb to it? How do we define what is political violence and what is just violence? Why is it different?
Are Texas Gov Greg Abbott’s razor balls floating in the river, considered “political violence”? Kind of. I mean, the idea is people from south of the US shouldn’t be allowed to come here and take our jobs.
Political.

To deter from this, razor balls in the river.
Violence.

There’s been a lot said about Joe Biden since the debate. I, along with so many of you, watched it play out in real time as respected news transmitters read out ‘inside texts’ from knee jerk reactionaries.
After much thought, I won’t be voting for Joe Biden because he’s old.
🧵👇🏻
I’ll be voting for Joe Biden because he’s team democracy. I’m voting for ideas he represents. I’m voting for the team of people he can put together. I’m voting for my own interests and for your ability to vote for your own interests. I didn’t vote for him last time either, btw.
In 2020, I voted for a November 5th, 2024 election. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were the only options on the ballot that allowed this. I colored in Joe and Kamala’s bubble to keep the lights on long enough for us to have this election. Like many of you, I voted team democracy.

I am loathe to do predictions. However, there are some things you just can’t help but see coming. Project 2025 is a blinking red alarm and we all need to be aware of the stakes of this election. Please familiarize yourself with EO11246, be discriminating voters.

A wee thread🧵👇🏻
On September 24th, 1965 President Lyndon Johnson signed Executive Order 11246. EO11246 established Equal Opportunity Employment. It includes Non-Discrimination in Government. It includes Non-Discrimination Employment by Government Contractors and Subcontractors.
Focus on Non-Discrimination Employment by Government Contractors and Subcontractors. In Sub Part B under Contractor’s Agreements, contractors agree to not discriminate against employees based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Trust me…
🧵👇🏻
The above is the oath the President takes at 12 noon on January 20. Typically, it is administered by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court but there is no law that makes that a requirement. You could have your gran do it. So why is it *usually* the Chief Justice?
For this thread let’s assume the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is there as a symbol of the law. Chief Justice Roberts in a way represents the Judicial Branch of our government on the day it grants power to the person who will symbolize the Executive Branch.
