We’ve decided that COVID19 is a disaster for the U.S. education system. But what if it was one of the best things that’s ever happened to it?
The U.S. education system has been criticized for decades now. Studies comparing students across subjects with international peers show the U.S. lagging behind. The current system was setup to serve the needs of the past. We know we need reform for the digital & automation eras.
What if, instead of all of the stress & effort spent on this faux reopening, we focused our energy on reform and improving sustainable, remote home-schooling plans?
I understand that “reform” feels like a lot to ask in this climate; there’s a lot going on. But in some ways, that means we've been handed a new blank slate. We could be experimenting with curriculum tracks which serve kids' interests & the state of the world they’re living in
I just wonder...Are we so concerned with preserving the status quo that we’re passing up a massive opportunity to pause, reflect, and do better for the next generation?
