Over the last two decades, General Hospital Ilorin that is meant to provide all sorts of health care services for citizens in the state has repeatedly referred patients to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) as a result of its dysfunctional Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
which lacked the availability of equipment required to carry out such treatments.
For emphasis, the facility is not just in short supply of manpower and personnel with the requisite knowledge and expertise to oversee the ICU,
the referrals over the years were also due to the fact that the ICU was ill-equipped, leading to loss of lives and bringing about hardship for patients, save for a few cases.
The fate of the hospital is about to change with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq giving quality and affordable health care delivery topmost priority in the state.
The governor has committed huge funds to the building of a state of the art facility Intensive Care Unit that would offer series of health services to the citizenry.
The new ICU facility when completed will attract people from far and wide in search of quality ICU care, making it about the biggest in North Central.
The General Hospital Ilorin will become a one stop shop for quality and affordable health care services with its capacity to treat ICU patients and significantly reduce the survival gap associated with risks of referrals.
The building of the ICU by Governor AbdulRazaq translates into uncommon commitment on the part of the government that is capable of turning Ilorin General Hospital into a medical tourism centre which will by no means increase the revenue generating capacity of the state.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has again condemned “the mindless looting” of people’s businesses in the state capital on Friday, insisting there can be no justification for such criminal behaviour.
He commiserated with owners of all the businesses affected and announced a N500m fund to assist them as part of the administration’s efforts to bring them back on their feet following the incident.
Text of the broadcast by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on the security situation in the state on October 23rd 2020
Fellow Kwarans:
I have just had an emergency security meeting with commanders of various security agencies in the state. This is to assess the situation in the state.
Over the last few days, I had earlier met with the traditional rulers, opinion leaders, members of the student community, and many other stakeholders in the state.
Our observation is that what has happened so far today was not a protest. It cannot be defended under any guise.

·Says remaining palliatives meant for one LG, vulnerable groups
·Victims from 15 LGs already got own shares
Attack by some hoodlums on the cargo terminal in Ilorin to prey on palliatives meant for the poor is condemnable, inexplicable, and does not reflect the good nature of the people of the state, the Kwara State Government said on Friday.
The government said the CACOVID and the state government had since distributed majority of the palliatives to the identified vulnerable households in 15 of the 16 local government areas of the state, according to a statement by the Commissioner for Communications @HonOshatimehin.
Kwara State Government has raised the alarm over plots by some anarchists to launch violent attacks on public properties in the state as part of their grand plan to destabilise the country to achieve sinister objectives.
“The government is in possession of intelligence reports that some anarchists, backed by certain political interests, are planning to attack public facilities in the state especially the capital city Ilorin.
