☕️ We drink about 100 million cups of tea a day and around 95 million cups of coffee.

And that's before we even mention energy drinks 🤯

Before you take your first sip this morning, this is what caffeine does to your body 👇

telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness…
8am - The first sip

🛌 For those who need a caffeine fix to get out of bed in the morning, reaching for a cup of tea or coffee is second nature.

🕗 The average life of caffeine in the body is roughly between five and six hours, but the response to coffee varies
8:05am - The placebo effect

🩸 To feel the effects of #coffee, you've got to let it absorb into the bloodstream.

🤯 So, that immediate alteration in your mood is likely to be a placebo rather than a biological change.

8:20am - This is where things get interesting

You should be starting to feel the positive effects.

☕️ Improvement in your mental performance

☕️ Sharper vision

☕️ You feel a 'rush of euphoria'

8:30am - Nature calls

🚽 Caffeine is a natural diuretic, so people with bladder or prostate problems might want to "be more careful when they have a cup of coffee"

🥤 However, a small cup has no links to dehydration, meaning you don't need to overcompensate with extra water
9:30am - Follow your gut feeling

This is the moment you might feel rumblings in your midriff if you've had coffee. This happens with decaf coffee too.

This isn't necessarily bad - coffee has been associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer

11am - The caffeine slump kicks in

By now, you may start to feel an aching tiredness creeping in. Signs of a caffeine crash include:

🤕 Headaches

🥱 Excessive tiredness

😠 Irritability

12pm - The craving

🤔 Caffeine may have left your system, but it's still on your mind.

🧠 Receptors in your brain expect that you're going to get another hit, leading us to reach for another cup

🔁 This starts a vicious cycle well into the afternoon

✍️ @GazTheJourno: Elon Musk has always wanted to create a company called X.

The first X was in fact an online bank he set up in the late 1990s - and its CEO was Peter Thiel. That company later became PayPal and was bought by eBay in 2002.
@GazTheJourno 🗣️ @GazTheJourno: Twitter’s blue bird logo has been with the site since its creation in 2006.
