Would the charming Erin O'Toole fulfill Harper's dream, given the chance? By altering or even removing our precious Charter of Rights and Freedoms from the Constitution? Please read on.
The House of Commons, the Senate, and two thirds of the provinces representing over 50 percent of Canadians must approve any changes to the Charter or any part of the constitution. By the time Harper won a majority, most provinces had Lib Govs so no chance for him to alter it.
Now though, most provinces are Conservative, and with a majority Gov, O'Toole would have Harper's dream within reach. How the Senate would vote is a question. But is the risk of losing our Charter rights by voting Conservative worth it? Ever?
Don't take this lightly please. Harper fought endlessly with the Supreme Court when judges (many of whom he chose) ruled repeatedly against laws he tried to enforce that violated the Charter. His utter disdain for the Charter showed in disgraceful public attack on Chief Justice.
Mr O'Toole was happy to do Harper's bidding in Government. And Mr. Harper has not gone away. This thread will be called 'fear mongering'. But the risk is real. Don't let it happen, please.
PM Justin Trudeau has stood against Putin's illegal invasion.
He has stood against Xi Jinping's bullying.
He has condemned Modi's anti-democratic attacks on Canadians.
He respects the rule of law of the ICC of which Canada is a founding member.
He condemned the 1/4
so called 'freedom convoy' as they ransacked Ottawa and shut essential border crossings.
He is the longest serving G7 leader, a senior leader of the G20.
He understands many of our essential trade agreements require we have a price on carbon.2/4
Pierre Poilievre, on the other hand, with his complete lack of experience outside of local politics, has done none of these things and understands none of these things.
Despite 20 years an MP several in Cabinet, we cannot point to one single positive contribution he made to 3/4
For my new Followers and old, all of you much appreciated - here Is a list of my threads (5) focused on what I believe to be the greatest threat to Canada and Canadians:
#1 THIS CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER
Just because... Poilievre had flags made saying 'Poilievre for PM' when the Convoy rolled into Ottawa while Erin O'Toole was still CPC Leader -
Just because he ordered that all Convoy related emails be copied to him -
Just because Interim leader Bergen said 1/ 5
'we should keep the Convoy in Ottawa to make it the PM's problem -
Just because Poilievre paid the legal fees of the woman who made claims against Patrick Brown that got him kicked out of the leadership race -
Just because CSIS states that India/China interfered in a CPC 2/5
Leadership race -
Just because Stephen Harper, Chairman of IDU officially supported Poilievre as Leadership candidate -
Just because Poilievre REFUSES to be vetted to get a Top Secret Clearance so he can read about Conservatives in thrall to India -
Just because Poilievre 3/5
GAMES POILIEVRE PLAYS:
In the House of Commons Poilievre has his favorite little tricks.
#1 He will stand up and demand that the PM answer the question and ask, all outraged why he won't answer when IN FACT he clearly knows the PM is not there. He knows camera can't show that 1/5
#2 Poilievre will stand and bluster and ask a question and then very quickly gather up his papers and flee the room before the Cabinet Minister involved can reply. He has his video sound bite and that's all he wanted. 2/5
#3 Poilievre will ask a question sounding all tough and demanding. A cabinet minister or the PM will reply. Poilievre will then release a video clip showing ONLY his question, but cutting out the reply which so often exposes his nonsense. 3/5
Sometimes before moving Forward, it is wise to have a look back. Today let's look at Pierre Poilievre's biggest moment of his 20 years as an MP - his so called 'Fair Elections Act' - which was in fact the antithesis of 'fair'. But it certainly reveals the real Poilievre. 1/6
Poilievre was 70 weeks late tabling his Bill. Then 24 hours later he cut off democratic debate about it in the House of Commons. The Following day Harper shut down the debate. 2/6
In tabling the Bill Poilievre claimed he had consulted with the CEO of Elections Canada. This was swiftly and totally denied by the CEO who stated there were NO CONSULTATIONSA AT ALL. 3/6
Oh the Drama! Well, Melodrama anyway. A midnight D Movie. After being shocked into silence for 2 days wondering what to do, CPC have come out with the most grandstanding, performative pearl clutching, handbag swinging FAUX outrage we've seen in some time. Question is 'Why?' 1/5
They KNOW perfectly well that the Government currently is NOT in a position to name names. No one has been accused of a crime. There are suspicions. There is no evidence. So The Curtain Rises, the Show begins. "Why won't Government name them? What is the Government hiding?" 2/5
Expressions of outrage. Chest and desk thumping. Red faces. But I tell you this. Pierre Poilievre perfectly understands the Gov can't name names. And he LOVES it. Let's CPC make every accusation under the sun about the Gov. To me the bigger, and longest running question is: 3/5
