The NBA players are effectively locking themselves out of their own jobs while demanding an action that their business has no control over. I don’t see how this boycott/strike/lockout ends. The NBA can’t address any demands with the players or institute any additional changes.
I suppose if charges are brought in Kenosha the NBA players could declare victory and return to games, but they have no control over whether charges are brought. And they don’t even know all the facts in that case. None of us do.
I suspect LeBron — and some other older players — will want to finish the season. But the interesting angle here is the woke NBA LeBron created has now passed him by. I’m not sure how much the younger players will listen to him. He might be outwoked by them.
Which would mean LeBron’s last, best chance to win a title could go up in smoke over players refusing to play.

Men, I will pay one of you $250k to play in the WNBA if you are able to make a team. I will also pay any of you able to qualify for one of the women’s tennis majors $250k and I will pay you $250k if you can make the US women’s soccer team. Get to work. Challenge issued.
For all high school age males: if you are able to qualify as a girl’s athlete and win a state women’s high school title, I will pay $10k per state title, but you must compete in @outkick gear. The best women are men. Boys rule! Get to work!
@Outkick I believe the LPGA has banned men. But if you are male and able to qualify for a women’s golf major and win it, I will pay you $250k as well. Open season on all women’s titles. A gold medal also pays $250k. Men are the best women. Get to work! #boysrulegirlsdrool
The NFL, a majority black employee league, has created more black millionaires than any business in the history of the world. Arguing the league is racist, as many sports media did this weekend, is the dumbest argument in 21st century sports history.
To do so based on the success or failure of any one player in the draft, as many of the sports media members did, is either profoundly dumb or intentionally racially divisive to score points with the dumbest sports fans in America. There are no other options.
The NFL is not without flaws, all major businesses just like all people have flaws, but it is the ultimate meritocracy. The best man wins and gets paid the most for winning. We should endeavor to make America more like sports, not sports more like America. Sports gets it right.
The Nico negotiation news has gone public, but I think college football fans would be STUNNED by the number of players agreeing to new deals in portal one & then asking for new deals by portal two. We don’t even have one year deals in CFB now, we have monthly deals. Wild times.
Professional agents have relationships with teams for decades & rep lots of players so they are more honest brokers as a result. Lots of these college kids have family members doing deals and they legit don’t care about anything but getting $50k more. That’s reality.
I’m a capitalist, but this is a broken system. Without a CBA, every attempt to put in place rules is judged an antitrust violation. Any argument these guys are getting an education is out the window too. They are all pros. How can you graduate at four schools in five years?
It’s the five year anniversary of the most disastrous public policy failure of my life — covid. We should never forgive or forget what left wingers did to us. What’s the most ridiculous covid rule you personally experienced? Share below. We can’t let them hide their stupidity.
Sports related: the Titans zip tied 75% of an outdoor stadium seats to socially distance fans & had employees walk around to monitor if you covered your face between bites or drinks. Bars had to close early because we all know covid respected curfews.
Being forced to wear a mask into a restaurant and then allowed to remove your mask once you sat down still infuriates me.
The most remarkable thing about people like Joy Reid, Don Lemon and Jim Acosta is they have been paid millions of dollars for years to talk on TV and yet they have developed no actual fan base. The minute they leave TV, their careers are over. Do you know how hard this to do?
You are gifted an incredible opportunity to enter people’s homes and talk to them directly for YEARS EVERY NIGHT. Yet the moment you aren’t on TV, your audience vanishes. That means none of your “audience” actually likes you. It’s all just platform/network based.
This is fascinating to me because the Internet arena is the exact opposite — your audience is directly connected to you because the audience has an infinite array of choices and picked you. It’s far more competitive & authentic online so the connection is much deeper.
Alabama is begging its fans for money to pay players. Tide’s in trouble because they don’t have that many super rich boosters compared to other top SEC programs. This is why Saban retired. He saw this coming. But the current system is also untenable for college athletics.
First, college teams are asking fans to buy tickets, gear, concessions, donate to the university AND PAY THE PLAYERS TOO! It’s bonkers. Imagine if you bought tickets to watch a pro team play and they passed around a hat for you to pay pro players with your money left over. It’s outrageous.
I can’t get over how funny this is. Every pro sports fan would revolt if this happened. College fans will at some point too. They’re all being milked dry. Especially since most college sports fans being asked to donate make LESS than the 18 year old players do.
