A lot of people are bashing this person online but these are awesome questions! Since I have an advanced degree in math, let’s see if I can answer them in 240 characters or less!
Is math real? Math is as real as most sentences are. “My cat ate salmon for lunch.” Clearly a cat eating salmon is something that happens so it seems plausible. So maybe I have a cat and this sentence is conveying knowledge about the world. Maybe it isn’t.
How would you come up with the concept of algebra? Short answer is it took thousands of years for humans to go from a vague sense of numbers to algebra. It wasn’t a trivial process.
Why do you need algebra? If you’re doing a lot calculations by hand, algebra helps you see underlying structure which makes it easier to teach others, double check your work and cuts down on the overall number of computations.
She’s definitely in the target demographic for my book! 😁 ... that doesn’t exist yet. 😅 Makes me think the potential audience might be bigger than I thought.
