The only point of the Republican Convention besides treating Donald Trump like an unimpeachable god has been telling white people that people of color want to take everything they have and murder them and that they’d better get a gun.

This is on the GOP. All of it.
The Right has played this white paranoia game for decades and has inspired one white terrorist after another. They’ve bombed buildings. Massacred congregations. Shot up WalMarts. The media refuses to draw the line or utter anything about white supremacy out of self-preservation.
Patriarchal white supremacy and its cavalcade of insecurities and delusions and paranoia has rotted this country to the point of fascist authoritarianism and pushed us to the edge of a failed state.

We have to reconsider. We have to change course in a massive, massive way.

The American Empire is in decline. That’s the issue we need to discuss, how we arrived here, how our priorities and myths were failures of principle and imagination.

Trumpism is a violent denial of the decline and our mistakes, a double-down on our sins of white supremacy.
Fascism festers in failing powers. It’s an alternative to accepting and understanding and learning from mistakes. It’s an angry delusion centering in conspiracy theories and scapegoats that demands the failures be reinforced by more forceful failures.
If we unburdened ourselves with empire and the white supremacist project of hegemony, if we disabused ourselves of the myths of exceptionalism and hypercapitalism and focused on bettering peoples lives instead of conquering we could make something real and true.

America has been trapped in its own imagined myths for generations. Those myths are destroying us.

All the distractions in the world can't hide this and all they do is allow room and cover for people determined to use the destruction for profit and to consolidate power.
Trumpism is fascism and fascism is the weaponization of a fictional past. America is uniquely suited to be consumed by it because our history is a carefully designed weapon. We are not immune.

We're in incredible danger and cannot afford to ignore it any longer.
We don't study fascism closely because it's a reflection of America, because the Third Reich was so closely aligned to us before Pearl Harbor, because the philosophy that animated it was our philosophy.

Here we are again. Time to learn. Time to pay attention. Time to change.

Two protesters were murdered yesterday by a white militia member who'd been working with police.

We have to recognize the relationship in America between white extremists, law enforcement, and the state.

Here's what I learned writing AMERICAN RULE.

First, we have to put this in perspective. The murders last night by a militia member were not just isolated incidents.

There have been so many acts of violence perpetrated against protesters and yet we fail to make the connections.

Why?

Because our myths rely on it.

We have seen, time and time again, these white militias and paramilitary group working alongside law enforcement while targeting BLM protesters.

There is a long, long history of these actions and it is part of the fabric of America's white supremacist roots.
