Enslaved people walking off plantations and heading North during the Civil War was the most successful labor action in U.S. history. Folks just weren't given credit for it in those terms.
White ppl who suck like to say white northerners liberated enslaved Black folks. Obviously, this is BS bc Black folks had always been rebelling, but even more so, bc enslaved ppl who walked off plantations en masse & ultimately fought for the Union shifted the end game of the war
The Union resisted allowing Black soldiers to take up arms, but eventually, they had to admit how badly they needed the backup. Basically, the Union allowed itself to be saved by Black people, and it was the best decision it had made in a good minute.
