THREAD: Mike Pence, who politically weaponized the tragedies in Kenosha in his RNC speech last night, has now been disinvited from delivering a commencement speech at a Wisconsin college. The trauma & pain of this moment is shaping politics—and revealing leaders’ character.
.@GovEvers traveled to Kenosha today, met w community leaders, and is holding a press conference *right now.* This week, Evers signed an executive order to hold a special session of the State Legislature to pass police accountability legislation.

.@RepVos, hyper-partisan GOP Speaker of the State Assembly, is refusing to act on the police violence legislation, instead announcing a meaningless “task force” to study a problem that has been studied and studied—as people die and scream out for change.

.@RepGwenMoore speaks directly to the outrage of many Black Wisconsinites and people across the nation reeling after seeing the video of a police officer shooting Jacob Blake seven times in the back.
Ron Johnson—@TheWorstSenator in America—has little to say about Jacob Blake, and nothing to say about Kyle Rittenhouse, the minor who crossed state lines with an AR-15 and shot two Wisconsinites dead last night. Instead, he attacks Gov Evers. For Johnson, it's Partisanship First.
.@SenatorBaldwin knows exactly who killed Wisconsinites on Tuesday night, and gets right to the point in holding @repvos to account for giving violent militia members a pass while refusing to act on police violence.

This violence is very much taking place in Donald Trump’s America.

In fact, Trump is actively inciting right-wing violence.

Listen to Elizabeth Neumann—a Republican and Trump's own former Assistant Secretary for Threat Prevention.

This Monday, Trump’s national convention gave a speaking role to supporters who pointed guns at protestors. On Tuesday, another Trump supporter, 17 years old, took a long gun across state lines to Kenosha and killed two people.

While Trump is spinning up fear and hate, @JoeBiden actually spoke to Jacob Blake’s family. And he quoted Blake’s mother in an appeal for peace and healing in our communities, and a call to reject systemic racism and violence.

.@KamalaHarris spoke powerfully today about the need to end racist police violence in America.

Kenosha’s Sheriff, David Beth, let us know exactly who he is in 2018 when he said the quiet parts out loud.

Wisconsin Lt. Governor @TheOtherMandela reflected what so many feel: shock, yes. But not surprise.

And back to Mike Pence. He talked about “law and order.” He lied, a lot. But didn't once mention the name of Jacob Blake or a single Black American killed or harmed by police.

What our elected leaders say and do matters. Their words & actions can mean life & death for the most marginalized among us.

@WisDems are going to continue organizing to elect better leaders. Leaders who listen. Especially to those most harmed by racism & systemic injustice.
And we're going to hold current electeds like Republican @RepVos accountable.

It's been more than a 130 days since the Wisconsin legislature passed a bill. Time for that to change.
