A journey of change:

When I started change.org/daughterforever getting @ICICIPruLife to make a commercial was just a small goal, part of a larger goal to highlight the hegemony in the society we live in. Specifically abt how daughters after marriage are treated like paraya dhan 1/n
where she has to take permission from spouse n inlaws to go to her house, manage her own parents.

But what we achieved was a community of people who acknowledge the hegemony in society and agreed to grow with me. Along with the community grew ICICI Prudential’s commercials. 2/n
When they first made a commercial after I started a petition, it was about a woman considering taking care of her parents, they showed that she is taking permission.

Upon pointing out the issue with the commercial, I never got a response. 3/n
But soon came this commercial in which a daughter buys a car for her mother. This was more progressive than the previous one. As I am exploring the world and people, I realize that feminism and equality is a journey. 4/n
Each one of us takes time to arrive at the destination.
So did @ICICIPruLife They took time, their journey towards change was a meanderingly long journey, many a time I felt like giving up. But I stuck to my idea and faith, thanks to my patience. 5/n
@ICICI_Direct recently came up with this commercial it is far ahead from where they started. It has an aged woman at the center, who is thinking of her retirement, has the representation of all genders in the rest of the characterization. 6/n
Other than ICICI Prudential's journey, I also want to acknowledge and thank each one of you signees who stood by me, kept this conversation alive. This is going to be a journey of a lifetime, please stay with us till we reach there. It doesn't end here 7/n
A 16 min documentary film on the issue is made - "She is Married not Dead" which will be screened digitally on 4th Sept 7.30pm onwards #SheIsMarriedNotDead
