అందరికీ #తెలుగుభాషాదినోత్సవం శుభాకాంక్షలు! ☺️🙏 Image
Among the many petty things (and many!🙄) that the (fairly pointless) separate Telangana movement did was to try and erase the beautiful song written by poet Shankarambaadi Sundaracharya. It was the state anthem. It is immortal! As long as Telugu lasts, this song will be sung!🙏 ImageImage

Countless stories of courage in every corner! A thousand sacrifices! No colour, caste, creed, age...all of them were Aasthikas. Poets, dancers, scholars, writers, Jeeyar Swamys, commonfolk...All diehard devotees of Sri Ranganathaswamy.

We must never forget their sacrifices! 🙏🥹 Image
That is the iconic Vella Gopuram or the White Gopuram of Srirangam.

Painted white for posterity, in memory of the great Vellayi Ammal, a Devadasi in service of Lord Ranganathaswamy in the temple.

Her sacrifice for the lord and for Dharma is immeasurable! And inspiring!

🥹🙏
Yesterday outside the same Gopuram, 12000 lamps were lit. To honour the memory of all those who sacrificed their lives for protecting our Dharma!

May their Bhakthi inspire us! 🥹🙏🏼 Image

One for this lovely evening! 🤩🙏🤩

An old song gets a new life!

In the 1940s, Andhra was caught in being highly inspired by Bengali literature. Telugu writers and literary figures tried to emulate similar content in their works.

Short thread!

@_RamanaB_
Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay's famous novel 'Devdas' was made into an opera in 1940. It had over two dozen songs. This particular song was composed by the great Balantrapu Rajanikantha Rao Garu. However it never made it into the final opera but became extremely popular on radio.
It was sung by another stalwart Carnatic classical musician Sri Voleti Venkateswarlu. It became a hit and later Rao regretted not including it in the opera.

Decades later the same song was taught by veteran Vidwan Sri Malladi Suribabu Garu to our favourite @_RamanaB_. 🤩🙏🏼

Auspicious morning of Magha Shukla Ashtami when Bheeshma, the grand old Pitamaha of the Mahabharata, completed revealing the greatness of Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam to the Pandavas, as he lay on a bed of arrows in Kurukshetra.

A short thread

🙂🙏🙂🙏🙂 Image
In Shanthi Parva of Mahabharatam, we know Bheeshma decided to leave his mortal coil on the 8th phase in bright fortnight of Magha, Magha Shukla Ashtami, also known as #BheeshmaAshtami. He was already on a bed of arrows over the last few Pakshas.

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Bheeshma was not his original name. He was King Devavrata. Due to the uncompromising Pratigya he took, he was addressed as 'Bheeshma'. He was also a master of Vedas and Shastras. Hence, out of everyone in the Kuru clan, he was addressed as "Bheeshmacharya" with reverence.
