BJP in power has seen this and more! Every year this happens, despite who is in power! Spare the drama please!

Bangalore has been totally messed up with that metro and other new urban infrastructure, most of which was totally unnecessary!

So stop imagining stupidly! Bangalore was a planned city keeping a thousand lakes in and around. By the 1960s, only 280 of those remained. Today we don't have even 80 of them. What happened to the rest? Land sharks with their illegal encroachments, backed by corrupt builders and governments!

In the 1940s, Andhra was caught in being highly inspired by Bengali literature. Telugu writers and literary figures tried to emulate similar content in their works.

@_RamanaB_ Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay's famous novel 'Devdas' was made into an opera in 1940. It had over two dozen songs. This particular song was composed by the great Balantrapu Rajanikantha Rao Garu. However it never made it into the final opera but became extremely popular on radio.

Got news late last night that Dr. Mark Dykzkowski passed away. He was one of the greatest living authorities on Kashmiri Trika Shaivism and an extraordinary scholar with in depth knowledge on the works of Abhinavagupta. He was also a wonderful Sitar artiste.

So, this young (and restless) couple keeps on posting their every other image on SM. Them eating, walking, cooking, cleaning etc. They had twin kids.

Pictures kept coming! Everyone found it cute and all that. Hundreds of comments. They were encouraged to post more. Few of us told them not to overdo things. They argued and fought. From one week total silence. Rather unusual for the SM addicted couple, I thought. Just checked with a common friend to see if everything was alright. I thought they were travelling or something.

Indeed! The British thought the Harmonium didn’t fit into the Indian classical music scene and banned it in 1940. Even Tagore banned it in Shanti Niketan.

It didn’t help that Nehru too hated it. His I&B minister Keskar let the ban stay. Read MO Mathai. Back in 1940 itself many artistes protested. The Indian Listener carried cartoons and pictures about that.

On 11th May 1951, the first President of India Sri Rajendra Prasad ji reopened the ancient Jyotirlinga Kshetram of Somnath in Gujarat. It was reconsecrated after several centuries!

Birth anniversary of the great Kannada poet , scholar, translator and Mysore palace Asthana Vidwan ‘Abhinava Kalidasa’ Sri Basavappa Shastri (1843-1891).

He is famous for composing and erstwhile Mysore State anthem ‘Kayou Sri Gowri’.

Today is the Aradhana day of Sri Alluri Venkatadri Swamigal (1806 - 1877) , a less known Vaggeyakara, poet, philosopher and a great Vaishnava Bhakta whose memory is kept alive by thousands of his followers and multiple Sishya Paramparas.

Woke up to the news of the demise of director #KViswanath Garu. Had written this piece long ago for the leftist site, when he was awarded the prestigious #DadasahebPhalke award. K Viswanath was indeed the Renaissance Man of Telugu cinema.
