I'M SEEING BLOOD IN MY SEMEN!

What can I do, I'm so scared already! 😱😨

Blood in semen (#hematospermia) commonly occurs between 30 to 40 years, or if you're over 50 with benign prostate enlargement.

A thread 🧵

Retweet!
During orgasm, sperm & seminal fluid travel from your testicles, through the vas deferens & urethra, out of the tip of your penis.
Bleeding may happen anywhere along the way, which may appear as a brown or red color in your semen.
Most men fear the worst when they see blood in their semen. Some immediately think it's a sign of cancer or an indication that can't impregnate a woman again.
But blood in semen is hardly a sign of cancer or outright infertility. No need to fear unnecessarily!
The commonest cause of blood in sperm is #trauma. This could be from a medical procedure like prostate biopsy & urethral catheter insertion.
It could also be from injury to testicles or prostate due to horseback riding, bicycling or road traffic accidents
Other things that can cause blood in your sperm are;

- prostate enlargement
- infections with chlamydia, trichomonas or parasites, &
- frequent masturbation

In young men below 40, with no associated risk factors, hematospermia usually disappears after a while.
But if there is blood in your semen, see a doctor for a check-up if you;
- notice it repeatedly
- are above 40 years
- have fever or pain on urination
- have bleeding problems
- have underlying medical problems

Treatment will depend on the exact cause of your problem.
