‘Energy & Environment’ is among the priority sectors identified by 100 Smart Cities with estimated investments worth over ₹25,000 crore proposed under Smart City Plans (SCPs). Under @SmartCities_HUA, clean energy initiatives encourage use of energy from renewable sources. ImageImage
Smart Cities are implementing projects relating to use of clean & green energy such as Solar Power Plants, Windmills etc. Smart Cities of Surat, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore etc. have made project investments to develop solar energy fields, floating solar plants, wind energy plants. ImageImage
Visakhapatnam Smart City has made innovative use of its water bodies by developing floating solar plants thus capturing solar energy and reducing water evaporation. As of June 2020, solar & wind energy projects worth over ₹200 crore have been completed. Image
2 MW floating solar farm is installed on the Mudasarlova Reservoir in Visakhapatnam. Solar plant is spread over an area of 17,500 sqm with intermittent opening to allow exchange of gases and sunlight. It supports around 6,250 dual glass solar panels.

This plant generates over 3,500 MWh electricity in a year, which amounts to saving more than ₹2 crore annually & reduction of over 3,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Environmental Impact of this Plant is equivalent to 1,38,600 mature trees.

This solar plant helps in checking evaporation up to 70% & saves up to 380 lakh litres of water each year, which can support the annual water requirements of 260 households.

Ahmedabad has envisaged the benefits of renewable energy and installed solar & wind power plants at various locations with different capacities such as Nakhatrana (KUTCH), Sardar Patel Stadium, Veer Savarkar Complex. ImageImage
Nakhatrana Wind Power projects – two in number, of 4.2 MW capacity each – have led to savings of ₹18.97 Cr (2.91 Cr units saved) from the first project & ₹10.04 Cr (1.43 Cr units saved) from the second project. ImageImage
Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation has taken initiative to produce green power by installation of rooftop solar power plants. BMC has signed MoU with @SECI_Ltd for installation of 3 MW & 1 MW with MP Urja Vikas Nigam Limited as Bhopal Rooftop solar projects. Image
1 MW Solar Power Plant was installed at Ukkadam Sewage Treatment Farm complex in Coimbatore. It covers a land area of 5 Acres. A total number of 3,168 solar panels, each with 320 Wp capacity, have been installed. Image
Estimated power generation per month is 1,41,360 KWh (i.e. units of power) & cost of savings per month is about ₹7.90 lakhs. This solar plant has a distinction of being the first MW size Solar Power Plant commissioned by an Urban Local Body in the State of Tamil Nadu. Image
Jabalpur Smart City has commissioned a 790 KW capacity solar rooftop power plant, which is based on net metering. The solar rooftop is placed on Ramanagara, Lalapur & Ranjhi water treatment power plants & on zonal offices of Municipal Corporation & Government schools. ImageImageImageImage
1 MW capacity of Rooftop Solar Power Plant was commissioned by Surat Smart city via “Wheeling of Power mechanism”. It generates 14 lakh units of electricity per annum, which has reduced electricity bills by ₹90 lakhs per annum & helped in reducing CO2 emissions by 1,150 tons. Image
Surat Municipal Corporation has installed a total 32.4 MW capacity of wind power plants. The electricity generated from these plants is mostly being utilized in the water supply system in PAN as well as ABD are of Surat Smart City. Image
Tumkur Smart City has unveiled 6 KW centralized off-grid Solar Power Plant along with LED Solar Street Lighting System at Vidyanagar Pump House premises. These solar plants are designed as an array along with a power conditioning unit as the key components of the system. ImageImage

Visited LightHouse Project site (LHP) at Perumbakkam in Chennai today. Hon’ble PM laid the foundation of this work of constructing 1,152 G+5 houses on 1 January 2021. Ms Sirke is using Precast Concrete Construction Technology from Finland to deliver this work in less than a year.
Was extremely impressed to see the progress on site. On the one hand, raft, base concrete slab etc are going for 4 towers, precast elements like roof slab, hollow columns, stairs etc are being cast in a temporary factory type of set up around 200 metres away from the site.
A Third Party expert body will be monitoring the quality.

Ms Sirke’s senior official told me that they guarantee life for 100 years & if maintained well, these houses will last for many more years. Could observe resource efficiency, speed & meticulous precision work on site.

Heartiest congratulations to Govt of Tamil Nadu & their Koyambedu Tertiary Treatment Water RO Plant in Chennai for receiving Global Water Award 2020 for Wastewater Project of the Year!

@pibchennai
It is an AMRUT funded Project to convert secondary treated water into better than drinking quality level.

Visited this Plant today. It is getting 60 MLD secondary treated water from the STP set up in adjoining plot, with capacity to produce 214 MLD water.
With this, after purifying through detailed process, consisting of stabilising, filtration with different levels of porosity & ozonisation, it delivers pure water with high quality.

This water is being taken by pipes to over 60 kms to be consumed by various industries.

Visited the Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC) developed by Chennai Smart City today. As a brain & nervous system of the city, it is delivering many services to improve quality of life of citizens.
For example flood control & rain water monitoring on real time basis with sensors/cameras help in better preparedness & quick response to any calamity.
It is used for solid waste management.
Garbage collection vehicles are tracked, health of 210 water bodies measured, citizens' grievances managed. It is also being used as a citizen service portal. Many other applications like citizens’ safety, traffic & public transport services, water/sewer SCADA are getting added.
