"To go back is nothing but death; to go forward is fear of death, and life everlasting beyond it. I will yet go forward." - Bunyan
This little line tucked into Pilgrim's Progress changed my life. The idea of slow, steady, faithful progress in the face of suffering and death, rather than big, exciting leaps and bounds all the time, defines me.
I was the "Radical" and "Crazy Love" and "seashells" generation where we all wanted to be missionaries and felt like failures if God had something different for us.
God uses ordinary faithfulness. Be a good dad. Be a good husband. Be a regular, boring, faithful pastor or writer or construction sales rep. Patient perseverance is often better than radical revolution.

Want to unplug and play some games with the family, but not sure what to get? You might say I have some experience in the matter with something like 500 games in my collection.
Here are 10 great family board games to put under the tree this Christmas:
🧵
1. Dorfromantik - 1-6 players, 20-30 minutes - Cooperatively build a city together and unlock new tiles and rules for next time. Super addicting - my most-played game this year!
2. Sunrise Lane - 2-4 players, 30 min - Compete to build high-rises in a rapidly growing city. Even simpler than Ticket to Ride but lots of great tactical choices.
The new Mass Effect board game has pronouns on its character sheets. The designer called anyone who complained about it a "manbaby". I'll be returning my copy, and I rated it a 1 on BGG.
I was then immediately kicked off the website I've been a member of since 2012 because of my religious beliefs that differ from the extremist gender ideology of the designer. Why the bigotry and exclusion, @BoardGameGeek?
Gatekeep your hobbies. Keep the woke extremists out. They will ruin your hobby in the name of "inclusion" and then kick you out and tell you you aren't welcome.
My review even expressed a desire for more inclusion and diversity and they still kicked me off the site :(
As a guy who owns an unhealthy number of board games, I'm often asked for recommendations for good "intro games" or fun light games the whole family can enjoy. Here's a few recommendations:
🧵
1. Sonar - This is like Battleship, but good. 1-2 players each man a sub and have to use deduction to draw out where they might be on a map. You then get to blow each other up.
2-4 players, 20 minutes
2. Downforce - This is a racing game, obviously. You buy cars and then use your hand of cards to move all the cars, but hopefully yours a little further than others! A classic design that's been remade with really nice boards and stuff now.
