The 1,360 km long India- Myanmar-Thailand (IMT) trilateral highway connects India with Thailand through Myanmar. The road connects Moreh in Manipur to Mae Sot in Thailand via Myanmar.
IMT Agreement was signed in 2016. It is an integral part of PM Modi's Act East Policy.
The IMT Highway will be extended to Cambodia, Laos & Vietnam.
With a trade of 80 Bn USD already, ASEAN is India's 4th largest trading partner.
With completion of IMT (by mid 2021) & linkage to Vietnam, trade with ASEAN may cross 200 Bn USD in 4 years.

8 of the 10 components/sections of the India Myanmar Thailand Highway Project are already complete. An Integrated Customs Centre and Check Post has been made operational at Moreh with all modern amenities and offices of various govt departments working from the ICP at Moreh.
69 bridges along with the approach road on the 149.70 km Tamu-Kyigone-Kalewa (TKK) road section were to be constructed/renovated. The work on this section could not be completed by the 2019 deadline as the Co which was awarded the contract earlier worked at a dismal pace.
When the contract to the Company was midway terminated due to poor pace of work, the company moved the Manipur High court and this resulted in delay of almost a year in work on the important TKK road and also the completion of the IMT Highway that was to be completed by 2019.
Our Ambassador to Myanmar had to write a letter to the MEA, lamenting the delay, comparing the Indian construction pace with China's and conveying that the Govt of Myanmar was upset about the delay.
This letter was mentioned in the SC by Attorney General himself.
Finally 3 weeks back on the 11th of this month (yes August 2020) on a petition by the MEA, the Hon'ble Supreme Court passed an order allowing the Govt of India to go on with the construction. The SC directed the HC to dispose off the matter in two weeks.

Acting on the SC order, the Manipur HC last week dismissed an appeal against a Single Judge Bench decision declining to assume jurisdiction over a contractual dispute arising out of the IMT Road Project (Niraj Cement Structurals Ltd. v. Union of India).

The judgment finally resolves a complex commercial dispute arising out of the construction of 69 bridges on the approach road to the IMT Trilateral Road.
As already mentioned, the Govt of India had terminated the contract citing defaults on the contractor's side.
Finally all decks are cleared for completion of the all important Indo Myanmar Thailand Highway Project by mid 2021 at the latest.
When it integrates with the East West Economic Corridor to connect with Vietnam, it truly will be an action towards the East and action in the East.
For many asking here about road trip to Thailand via Myanmar, a trilateral motor vehicle agreement (both for commercial vehicles and passengers) is being negotiated for two years. The negotiations are in last stage. This will soon be a reality.
