anglo culture is extremely obsessed with REASONABLENESS and being RATIONAL and people love making evaluations through that lens whether it makes sense or not
People also have all these extremely deeply held beliefs about what America is and is like—stable, just—that make it hard for them to see what is happening (social crisis) 
What would convince the protesters to wait until the election would be... any sense of political enfranchisement! but that's Not America and so instead people act like the characteristic expression of disenfranchisement is an error of electoral strategy
ok also this weird american liberal ideology where they are The Good Guys and there's this "we" of them and... anyone fighting for justice? idk how this works but it is very powerful in limiting people's vision of political problems and possibilities
