Several things about Brittney Griner's detainment give me pause.
Griner plays for a Russian team in the offseason and has for the past several years. Reportedly, some 3 weeks ago, Russia detained her after allegedly finding hash vape pens in her luggage at the airport.
It was well-known she'd be entering the country to play for the Russian team, as that's her job and how she makes a living.
That means Russia expected Griner. And it happened to arrest her about a week before starting the war it had been planning?
Weird.
As for the drugs, I won't take a police report from Team Putin at face value—especially a report about "finding" drugs on a Black person.
This wasn't Griner's first rodeo in Russia. She's a regular there and knew the rules very well. She may have made a mistake but I don't know.
1) It defies logic for Trump—an established pathological liar—to suddenly start speaking truth, particularly about his health, and a disease he considers a weakness and has been trying to downplay for months.
It's good that this law was passed, but it shouldn't have been necessary if law enforcement had any respect for citizens. But they can't even respect Kobe Bryant in death.
The penalty for selling crime scene photos is a misdemeanor with fines up to $1,000. That’s a joke if you’re selling photos to scandalous sites for 5-figures.
The law should make offenders lose any money gained from the photos. Plus, if it's an officer, they should be suspended.
Also, we can't count on this law to actually be enforced because it requires police to turn in their fellow officers and EMTs.
We can't even count on police to tell the truth about what happened in situations when they kill us. How can we expect them to act right about a photo?
Despite that Black people ARE diverse with different mindsets and beliefs, white supremacy wants you to believe that we’re not dynamic, but predictable, simple, basic—like objects.
That lie enables white supremacy to widely advance negative stereotypes about Black people.
In addition to normalizing racism, this monolithic myth allows whites to rob us of our humanity.
To be an individual, a whole person worthy of respect, one is allowed to be dynamic, to think and act differently from their fellow wo/man. But not Black people, per white supremacy.
Wanton endangerment is a Class D felony in Kentucky.
Although it carries a minimum of 1 year in prison and a maximum of 5 years, those convicted of Class D felonies generally can avoid prison time by way of parole/pretrial diversion.
To find Louisville Officer Brett Hankinson guilty of first-degree wanton endangerment would mean that he engaged in behavior that showed extreme indifference and created a significant danger to human life.
He's and his fellow officers are guilty of that and far more.
Officer Hankinson can avoid prison time by seeking Pretrial Diversion, which is an option for those indicted with Class D felonies including first-degree wanton endangerment.
Hankinson should qualify seeing as he likely has no felonies, probation or parole in the past 10 years.
