However, Sen. Mitch McConnell never brought it to the Senate floor— even as over 50 million Americans have filed for unemployment over the course of the pandemic.
Democrats and Republicans remain at an impasse over the next round of coronavirus relief, and the House is not scheduled to return for votes until mid-September.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer met with Mnuchin and WH Chief of Staff Mark Meadows multiple times to try to hash out a deal.
However, in a joint statement, the Democratic leaders said they would not move forward with discussions after the treasury secretary rejected their offer to find a compromise between the Democrats’ more than $3 trillion relief package and the GOP’s roughly $1 trillion proposal.
