Reports of India having intruded 4 km into Chinese territory are untrue; Richin La ridge also held by Indian troops who climbed the peaks in the early hours of Sunday
3 things India got right this time 1. Tactical ISR capability worked effectively 2. As soon as Int came in about Chinese movement, Indian preempted the move 3. Physical condition of the Indian troops far better than PLA soldiers. Also there was no physical contact between troops
Army sources: No belligerence by Indian troops. India now has the upper hand in this area, overlooking the PLA Spanggur Garrison. China surprised and embarrassed with the Indian move.
MEA says Indian action is defensive, in response to Chinese provocation.

Think all our experts, former senior military officers and even journalists need to pipe down on the euphoria about involvement of SFF personnel in the current development along the LAC. While their contribution is acknowledged, it is important to be realistic
By projecting them as some kind of supermen, we are not only undermining their role, but also belittling others involved in the current operation. One reported casualty of an SFF personnel for instance was not in any clash with the Chinese but in an accidental mine blast.
While tables have been turned in the Chushul sector, it is not the end of the standoff though it can be a beginning of a possible disengagement all along. Patience and a combination of military actions and diplomatic discussions is the key. Just my #ThursdayThoughts

Even as India and China brigade commanders level talks are on at Chushul, a recap of events since Saturday night/early Sunday reveals that the shoe is on the other foot now simply because China has been presented a fait accompli much in the same manner as it had tried since May
Indian troops in large numbers (withholding exact size of the force for now) are now sitting atop a ridge line that extends from south of Pangong Tso to Spanggur Tso going through Chushul-Rezang La and extending upto Richin (Requin) La overlooking a crucial Chinese camp at Moldo
Indiian troops raced to the top of hill features like Magar Hill, Gurung Hill and Richin La when it noticed Chinese movement on Saturday night before the PLA troops could climb. Now, the Chinese are seeking restoration of status quo ante! These heights were unoccupied since 1962.

This stratnewsglobal.com/chinese-troops… report apart, a short commentary on the fallout of situation along the LAC. Its a truism that every crisis brings an opportunity but the Chinese action in Ladakh has resulted in three distinct developments.
1. Whatever little hopes optimists had about India and China co-existing peacefully have vanished in thin air. All Indian decisions and actions will now be based on an assumption that China is India's principal challenge.
2. India now has a chance to reorient national security policy which will be primarily focused on combating Chinese actions. Pakistan will be a sub-set of the Chinese problem. In one stroke, China has made enemy out of 1.3 bn Indians and pushed China apologists to the margins
