Being a maker is 1% ideas, 99% mindset

I’ve always struggled to turn ideas into products

Excuses piled on: lack of coding skills, lack of leverage, lack of money etc

Once I won over my limiting beliefs, I shipped 8 no-code projects 🏆

Here’s how I did it: (a thread) 🧵
1/ Zoom out & ask important questions 🤔

Spend time asking yourself what’s your burning desire?

I wanted to have real products w real users in the market

Money was secondary as I already had a day job. I needed experience & evidence to show that I’m not just an idea guy!
2/ Manifest your identity 🦹‍♀️

In late 2018, I had spent some time reading the book Atomic Habits which discusses the power of “identity”

I called myself “a maker, someone who maybe a rookie maker right now but will get better 1% each day”

This was key 🔑

Some notes on this:

1/ Your creative talent/potential doesn’t matter if it doesn’t move the needle of value for others
2/ When you add value and show proof of work, you’ll gain evidence that you are infact working to help/benefit others

The world doesn’t care for talent (the cold truth) but only evidence that you can help solve problems or add value

A lot of founders I speak to are very attached to their MVP or v1

They often feel proud of it and hang onto it despite signs that it isn’t giving them or their customers what they need

Here’s how to have a healthy relationship with your MVP 👇🏽

Build around a thesis 🔮

For many founders, their MVP is their first public creation so naturally they are attached

But an MVP is only an experiment 🧪 infact just a curious question on whether users are even remotely interested in your offering

Is it solving a problem?
Make it about 1 or 2 core actions 🎯

Don’t expect your users to rave about your comprehensive product, that’s for a later stage

An MVP should ideally just enable and track 1 or 2 core actions

Ex: For a dating app, number of swipes

For a marketplace, no of items listed/day
