Little known fact about Duolingo: We spend an insane amount of time improving our push notifications.

This is one of our most successful notifications, which we call "the passive aggressive reminder":
This is sent after a week of inactivity on Duolingo.

We've experimented with many variants of this notification and this version above always won.
Here's why:

* It's personal. It reads like a passive aggressive text from Duo.

* It's unique. Notifications never say "we will stop sending you notifications". This breaks that pattern.

* It's well timed. A week of inactivity is a good time to get back into learning.
If we've learned anything about push notifications, it's that successful ones have a combination of these three elements: Personalized, unique and well-timed.
