Oh, so apparently my contribution to the community is “clearly equal to almost zero”. 🙃

Let’s have a quick look at some of my community contributions; done in my free time, outside of my actual job.
30+ technical tutorials covering topics like Arm assembly, exploitation, iOS Zone and Glibc Heap internals, Firmware emulation, TrustZone internals, focus and learning, and so on: azeria-labs.com

Summary of release tweets can be found here: @azeria_labs
In-browser Arm assembler (Desktop view), covering most user-mode ARM instructions for 32-bit ARM and 16-bit Thumb. Automatic assembly of instructions as you type and highlighting if zero-bytes.

Lab VM which contains QEMU emulated Armv7 env, two Tenda router firmware versions to explore, all scripts necessary to start the firmware emulation, useful tools for debugging, Arm exploitation challenges to learn the basics of exploit mitigations.

Created some artwork visualizing Arm assembly to make the learning experience more aesthetically pleasing 💁🏼‍♀️

Created nerd fashion because why the hell not 💅🏼
Gave free in-person workshops at public conferences to hundreds of people: training.azeria-labs.com/archive/

Helped organize and gave free reverse engineering workshops for underrepresented groups with @blackhoodie_RE (2017-2019)
Worked with Arm on exploit mitigation research to help educate engineers about the importance of exploit mitigations by demonstrating techniques hackers use to bypass them.

Presented my 80-page research paper on Arm exploit mitigation bypasses and TrustZone attacks in front of @Arm engineers in Cambridge this year:

Also some of the community service invisible to the public: I’ve had my DMs open since day 1 and closed them only a week ago. I answered questions, gave guidance, mentored people, helped women deal with their abusers, and tried my best to encourage women to not leave this field.
I could go on, but you get the idea.

The fact that women are always expected to prove their contributions is exhausting, and also the reason why many women leave the industry or shy away from sharing knowledge publicly.
Let’s remember why diversity benefits us all: every industry needs diverse perspectives and ideas on how to solve problems, communicate knowledge in more creative ways, and encourage/inspire more people to join.

Is this really the content we want to miss out on when women stop publishing because they’re tired of the harassment they get?

Yet this is the stuff she has to deal with for minding her own business and using her free time to contribute to the community and create content:
If you consider telling me to “just ignore” toxic bullies getting away with casting other women out of the industry, then I suggest you just ignore my tweets and let people use their voice to advocate for the change needed to keep minorities from leaving.
I said it twenty times and I’ll say it again: this is not about me.

If you think I’m going to be sheep and not use my reach to speak up about problems and try to change something for the people who aren’t being heard, then you’re following the wrong person.
